Aggressively dating may be the biggest mistake yet…

MURRAY HILL -- My foray into online dating was never subtle.  I went to the extreme.  When I finally signed off of all the online dating sites I still found myself on a number of dates - set up through friends, and “online” connections that I hadn’t had the time before to meet.  Date after date, night after night - I found myself still unsatisfied.  What is it with men in their late 20’s/early 30’s?

Recently I was out on a date with someone who I had been set up with through mutual friends.  It was a cool speakeasy with killer live jazz.  The cocktails were delightful, the setting classic New York, and yet the company was in a word — dull.  Why did I find myself fantasizing about being there alone?  Was it the condescending way my date spoke to me about his work, or the fact that he asked me nothing?  Honestly, it was neither. I can have fun in any situation - however awkward it might be.  On a certain instinctual level I knew from the beginning that this would not amount to anything - which is a frustrating and uncomfortable realization to come to before you even order the first drink.
