“Why Transit Matters” !!! Sources below, plz read and share! ✨🚌 repost: @johnny_redd.pdf - check out more of their urban and transit collages and stickers! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ALSO >>> It’s #transitequity day in celebration of Rosa Parks. To also push this movement and message, a reader of ours reached out to us to share a grant program, Safe Routes To School, that needs momentum and awareness and hopefully some action! A grant focused on equity for infrastructure for public schools to upgrade sidewalks, crosswalks, and anything that promotes biking and walking. Programs like this can help the future for communities to get the type of infrastructure developed to make walking and biking safe and possible. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We've attached a video and link in profile if you're looking for tangible local action to make safe streets a reality in your neighborhood and children's school. This is all paid for by a grant so apply! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Collage data: “Who Relies on Public Transit in the U.S.,” Pew Research Center, https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/04/07/who-relies-on-public-transit-in-the-u-s/ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #cyclistazine #mobilityjustice #bikeequity #socialjustice #resistance #cycling #cyclinglifestyle #cyclinglife #shredthepartriarchy #racialjustice #bikingdiversity #bike #cities #streetsafety #bikelanes #bicycleadvocacy #bikelife #citycycling #tacticalurbanism #diybikelanes #transit #transportation #transitequityday https://www.instagram.com/p/B8J1Kf2lnjd/?utm_medium=tumblr
The city must design its $2.5-billion Sunset Park-to-Queens streetcar line to help the borough’s neediest, not rich white yuppies, Brooklynites said at public forum in Red Hook on Tuesday night.
“I don’t know if the $2-billion dollar investment should just make it easier to go to a brewery or to go get brunch in Williamsburg, and it kind of feels like that’s what their motivation is,” said Ross Joy, who lives in Windsor Terrace and works in Red Hook.
“Racial equity means that we don’t keep building the same systems based on white preference or white taste,“ he said. “Let’s see that it’s based on being connected to property lines of NYCHA developments.”
