Zahra Nouri Zenouz “Tiger and Cuckoo” 2020 Acrylic on canvas 100×110 cm
Painter Ayman Baalbaki was born in Lebanon in 1975, the same year the Lebanese civil war began. The war, which claimed over 120,000 lives, is the primary focus of Baalbaki’s work. In this installation, the precariously stacked personal belongings represent the disruption and displacement that war has caused throughout the Middle East. Today, there are more than 1.5 million Syrian refugees living in Lebanon - that is 1 refuge for every 4 citizens.
