hii, late night espresso-verse question 💗 (it's literally still 8pm here lmfao)
has dean ever tried to use her cafetera on his own?
idk I feel like he'd be curious about it or wanna surprise her one day with a nice gesture, but on the other hand maybe he'd be too worried about damaging it or something? 😭
Hey girl!! Sorry it was 12 am for me when I got this lovely message, but you know I always love a Midnight Espresso-verse question! 😘💜
Dean has tried his hand at using a cafetera to make espresso like she does. He's watched her do it a handful of times. It's not rocket science, he thinks to himself.
But to his embarrassment, he does burn out the bottom of the pot keeping it on the stove too long. The coffee bubbles over the top and splashes the hot zone, sizzling a stain on the surface and making it smell all burnt and smokey in the kitchen.
But she appreciates the effort, hiding a smile behind her hand when the cafecito is accompanied by some eggs, bacon, and toast — a little breakfast-in-bed action for Mother's Day. 🌸
When you slam yourself so hard into the heart of the Barista that took your order just a few moments ago you end up accidentally giving him the potion of swiftness without realizing it.
Or atleast ─ that's what it looked like. Because Ace (the name that the nametag on his apron gave away), seems like he's moving even faster than he did before. And mind you, he's already a fast worker as is. you know this because you've been observing him ever since you stepped foot in this cafe.
It's a funny sight, sort of. Seeing this 6'1 guy take an order and immediately get to making said order all under a few minutes, You wish you could see the customers reaction to that ; because quite a handful of them seemed shocked by just how quick he is when he rings up their order only after a few minutes at best. Maybe it's not a bad thing after all… unless he gets paid by the hour and not by how well he does his job. If it's the former, you can only grimace and wish him for the best.
Shaking your head and averting your focus away from the Barista, you take a sip of your drink as you watch Perona multitask ; her right hand moves swiftly, holding a pencil firmly and making lines on a small notebook she always brings with her, drawing. (Perona's a fashion designer and a seamstress, 24 and already planning to launch her own clothing line. It's no surprise that she brings a notebook everywhere she goes, to write or draw down ideas whenever inspiration strikes her.)
Her other hand is scooping small bites of pancakes into her mouth, the plate of pancakes were cut into bite-sized pieces in advance ─ so all she had to do was stab her fork into the unsuspecting pieces of pancakes and eat it. Sometimes her fork misses, making a small 'clank!' sound from hitting the plate instead of the pancakes. When that happens, you grab a butter knife and rearrange the pancakes by pushing it to the middle or closer to her side (where she usually aims her fork) so she'll always get a bite of pancakes no matter what. Until she finishes her plate, of course.
Putting down the drink you've been sipping on for the last 2 minutes, you look at the few empty dishes cluttering your table. One is a plate with leftover crust and a few mixed berries left, the remains of the Berry Pie you and Perona ate 15 minutes ago. The other plate was the plate that had Scallion Pancake on it, the taste was so good and savory that nothing was left behind in the plate. You were surprised at how much Variety the cafe menu has, it definitely didn't let you down.
You remember Ace telling you that there are a few board games in the cabinets that were in the corner of the store, they were free to play by any customer that entered the cafe if you remember correctly. You came here to have breakfast and start searching up essential stuff for your vacation break (hotels , tour places , driving fees and all). But a few boardgames wouldn't hurt, right? Afterall, your vacation has already started and playing games counted as letting loose.
You set your mind to play a few board games with Perona before leaving so you start stacking up empty plates and glasses to make room for a few games. Perona finally looks up to you when she hears glass clinking and gives you a quirked eyebrow when you started wiping the table with cloth. You give her a grin and she snaps her notebook closed, putting it and her pencils aside.
"Are we leaving this early?" She asks as you collect the utensils from plates and stack them into the highest plate, Perona's eyes follows your every move, identical to a cat.
"No, I'm making space."
"For what?"
You bite back the urge to respond with a 'your mom' joke, knowing Perona's mood usually sours instantly whenever you even try to deliver the line. Instead, you opted to put her question on hold and to get the game in question.
Already used to your odd behavior at times, Perona doesn’t bother to question you suddenly rushing out your chair anymore and lets you go. She vaguely hears you scrambling to get something a few tables behind her, but doesn’t give it any thought. However, when the voice of the Barista that served them earlier starts to blend in with your taken off-guard exclamation of surprise, she can’t help but strain her ears to eavesdrop on your starting conversation. She's as nosy as she can get, but that’s always how she's been.
“─What’s this game about?” She hears you question, followed along by the sound of a box rattling. Perona had no doubt that you were shaking whatever board game is in your hands currently. You’ve always had a habit of shaking boxes to hear what’s inside, she doesn’t get why you do it, and she probably never will. That’s fine with her, you do what you do, perona does what perona does. It’s how the dynamic between you two works ; no matter what absurd or odd things one of you do, the other never judges. And it’s simply how it’ll always be.
"Well─ you’re familiar with trick questions right?" Perona hears the barista respond, his tone so cheery it makes her suspicious. Just a little.
"Hell yea! I love those, is the game basically just filled with that..?" Your voice trails off questioning, but you spoke up again. "Would you mind humoring a customer by explaining it in more detail though?" She can practically feel your smile from here, is it just her or was your voice more up-beat than it usually is? Also, were you trying to make the conversation last longer? Her suspicions are only rising higher.
A chuckle. "Course i don't mind! This board game is basically filled to the brim with those kinds of questions where the most obvious answer is probably the wrong one. It is a team game, usually played with 4 people, 2 on each team, But─!” She hears a clap, man this guy is expressive. “─You can definitely still play it with just two people. The rules are pretty simple, let me explain…” Perona drops the eavesdropping when the guy starts getting off-track with his explanation, now somehow telling a story about his experience playing the very same board game with his brothers animatedly (and god, just how many brothers does this guy have?).
Time passes, you don’t know how much ; but it passes and you return to your table with a board game in hand, satisfied with your pick and show it off to a not so impressed Perona.
“Really?”
“Mn? What?”
She rolls her eyes,”Did you seriously have to take that long just to get a board game [name]?” You stare at her as you took your seat again, setting the board game on the table and crossed your arms. “What are you looking at me suspiciously for? Of course I had to, how else would we play the game correctly if we didn’t even know how to?”
“Not talking about the game, [name]!”
“But you said─” You cleared your throat, adjusting your voice to mimic Perona’s. ‘Did you seriously have to take that long just to get a board game [name]?!’ Which ─ let me remind you, does imply that you were referencing the board game.”
She made a show with her hands, throwing them open dramatically. “Fine! I’m talking about the barista. Did you have to enable him with those hums? You only made him sidetracked and drew out the conversation longer than it needed to be.”
“Oh so you were listening in! Typical, so i guess i don’t have to explain the rules and how to play this game then? Awesome.” You grin, enjoying Perona’s reaction as the corner of her right eye twitches and her fingers drum the table rhythmically (Something you have translated to her trying to not lose her calm, based on the observations you’ve made over the few years at least.)
As fun as teasing Perona is, you’re not that mischevious to the point you would make Perona actually angry ─ no one would want an angry Perona, very much none would like to face her wrath. So you give a small smile, giving a small pat at her hand that drummed against the table.
“Alright, sorry.” You lean back against your chair. “I was just trying to look for a game that looked fun to play for the both of us when he cut in, believe me ─ I was surprised as well.”
“No, yeah, I heard you.” Perona quickly replied, now slurping on her unfinished drink.
“Sometimes I wonder just how far your hearing range is. Scary.”
She shrugs, “You do realize you were only a few tables away right?” Then waves her hand around. “Wasn’t that hard to hear what was happening, continue the story!”
“If you listened in on us, then you already know what happened!” You bring up.
“But i wanna hear it from you! From your perspective.” She countered. “Also I stopped listening half way through when he decided to talk about his brothers or something.”
“Oh. I guess the guy is pretty chatty..”
“More than that, jeez. It reminds me of Luffy alot─”
“Ah, that's his younger brother!”
That stunned Perona quickly, though not for long as she exclaimed ‘I should’ve known!’ with a dramatic exasperated face and started to ramble, listing off the similarities between Ace and Luffy that she had noticed so far.
You’re starting to regret bringing the topic up but you suppose it was inevitable, it was either now that Perona makes the connection, or later on ─ When the guy in question joins them at their table to be the GameMaster. From what you gathered so far about his character, he probably will bring up his brothers again.. At Least it’s better having Perona spiral into dumping all information she has about him now rather than later ; in front of the actual guy. That would have been both awkward and embarrassing.
Oh yeah, you haven’t told Perona about the GameMaster thing yet.
You wonder how she’d react to that, You’ll find that out soon enough though - Right now, you need to figure out a way on how to put a pause (a stop, would be more preferred but you’ll take what you can get) on her tangent without causing anymore disturbances to the other customers inside the shop.
“Yeah, their similarities really shine through when you make the connection, Hu?─”
“Why is the barista heading this way?” Perona cuts you off without hesitance, side-eyeing the ‘barista’ with no subtlety at all.
You prayed, for whoever exists out there, that the barista would be the guy you had in mind and not some poor worker just trying to do their job (getting side-eyed by a gothic woman at 7 in the morning isn’t exactly an ideal scenario a worker would want to experience when doing their shifts after all).
You cough. “Which barista?”
Perona sharpens her eyes at you. “The one that took our order and served us?”
“Oh, Ace? Stop looking at him like you’re about to shoot lasers from your eyes and disintegrate him. He’s gonna be our GameMaster for this game.”

MASTERLIST / ASK FOR A TAGLIST HERE / ACE'S PLAYLIST
So as a girly with her own culture. What part of your culture would you showcase in your fanfics? Other than food of course
Hey there! Aw, good question, thank you. 😉
I think you're somewhat new to my blog, so the two series where I've incorporated some of my cultures are:
☕ Midnight Espresso - Dean Winchester x Plus-Size/Latina!Reader
💜 Unravel Me - Soldier Boy (Ben) x Afro-Latina!Reader
These stories definitely feature Latin food a lot lol, mostly Cuban and Dominican. Because for us, food and family go hand in hand. You feed the people you love. That's just how we operate.
And good food is definitely the way to Dean's heart lmao. I also think Ben's flinty piece of coal could also be warmed up by a good hot meal. 😏❤️🔥 Even if it does stroke the "traditionalist" old man in him to have a woman cook for him. 🙄
But I also tried to highlight different aspects of what it is to be Hispanic/Latina, and an American "person of color":
Music: Cuban salsa and Dominican Bachata
Having curly and/or textured hair (and an army of hair and skin products lol)
Being affectionate, family-driven communities of people, and vibrant with our emotions (sometimes too much lol)
...At least in my experience — because being Hispanic or Latino isn't a monolith. There are so many different ethnicities and experiences within them, so these stories either take influence from my own life, or from my family and friends.
Also, I think different women have different kinds of strength. So in the reader characters in the Espresso-verse and Unravel Me, I've tried to incorporate the resilience, kindness, and caring nature I see in my family and close Latina friends. 💗
alex !! 🩵:) an interesting (silly) question for you before I fall asleep lol
if you were zapped into one of your fictional universes (one of your stories) and stuck there for 24 hours, which one would you choose and why/what would you be up to? :p
Jules!! ❤️❤️ Oooh haha what an interesting question 🤔
Honestly it would stress me tf out to be in SPN world knowing there's monsters and ridiculous shit happening all the time, but I would probably want to get dropped into the Midnight Espresso-verse and live that fantasy of being Dean's Latina girlfriend for a day. 🤣
Or for a physically safer option, how about Subtext (Professor!Dean x Reader). I'm basically a lit. nerd already, but I'd be living my other fantasy of being a book editor in NYC while also being Dean's (Latina) girlfriend 😂
Thank you for this question, my friend! It was very fun to contemplate, and more difficult than I thought it would be to narrow down, believe it or not lol! 💕
hiii, i’m back to bug you with another espresso-verse question 💭🫶🏽 (can you tell the last two installments have lingered in my mind? lololol)
now that we’ve seen her with both john and mary I can’t help but wonder, what would it have been like if she met bobby? (not a request I promise, just curious :p )
Hey love! Oooh how you spoil me! 😉 And I loooove this question for the Midnight Espresso-verse! 💜💜💜
I think reader would've come to love Bobby's crochety ass. Of course she hears the stories from Sam and Dean — not only about how Bobby always comes in clutch, but how his house was one of their few safe places in their childhood (especially for Dean). When she sees for herself how Bobby treats the boys with such parental long-suffering (😂), she would also see that he's been a special parental figure in their lives.
Naturally, it takes Bobby a hot minute to warm up to anybody. Like Dean though, he'd come to respect reader for the heart she brings to cases, even if Bobby also thinks she's a little too soft-hearted at times.
The crust on his own would thaw a little more, though, when he sees the way she has Dean's back. The way she doesn't just care about him, but takes care of him when he doesn't think to do it himself. And because Bobby doesn't miss a goddamn thing, he also sees how deep Dean's fallen for her, no matter how much it scares him in this life they lead.
It would hit something deep and sharp in Bobby, because it reminds him of his wife, Karen — her warmth and nurturing nature, and the way she loved him despite his flaws.
Bobby would tell Dean, with rare emotion through the grit in his voice:
