If your still taking kiss prompts could you possibly do #9? Thank you!! 😊❤️
9. one small kiss, pulling away for an instant, then devouring each other
Seventh year was proving to be a lot more labor intensive than Lily had anticipated.
And that’s why she was often the last one standing come the end of the night, holed up in her corner of the circular common room, behind a stack of books, with ink all over her hands.
Tonight, was a night like that, but she’d laid her head down to rest for a few moments and when she woke up, she heard footsteps rushing up one of the sets of stairs and someone had a hand on her upper back.
“Lily?” Someone said quietly, rubbing their hand in circles. “Lily, you don’t want to sleep down here.”
Lily huffed and reached up to rub at her eyes. “I wasn’t sleeping,” She lied, “I was just resting my eyes. They’re tired of looking at potions homework.”
“That’s fair,” It was James. She should have known already of course, but she had been asleep. “Do you want me to help you pack up your things? So you can get up to bed? It’s pretty late.”
Lily pushed herself up into a sitting position. “No,” She looked blinked a couple of times and looked from her mountain of unfinished work, to the boy sitting in the chair next to her. He must have dragged it closer than it had been when Marlene had been sitting there earlier. She could see all the brilliant colors in his eyes. “I’ve got it,” She gave him a sleepy smile and started nearly collecting her things and arranging them in her bag, just so.
“Should we go to the library tomorrow to finish the essay?”
Lily hummed and shook her head. “I’ve promised Gwen that I’d help her with her charms work tomorrow. Then Mary is going to walk me through our Herbology homework. And then I’m going to finish the Transfiguration- could you help me with the Transfigurations work?”
“Of course,” He nodded. “Maybe we can do something non-homework related as well.”
“Are we still allowed to do that?” Lily asked, only half joking as she flipped the flap of her bag shut and stood up.
“Certainly doesn’t feel like it.” James’ hand went to his hair and Lily wondered what exactly it was that he had in mind as a non-homework related activity. But she didn’t ask.
“Hey,” She narrowed her eyes and looked at him. “Why are you down here?”
He stood up and stuffed his hands in his pockets. “I was just checking up on you.”
Lily looked toward the clock on the wall behind him and then back at him. “I don’t think so. But fine, keep your secrets, Potter. You’ll trust me with them someday. Goodnight.”
And then, without thinking about it, she stood up on her tip toes and pressed a quick kiss to his mouth. Like she did it every day before she went up to bed. Like it was perfectly normal for her to stand on her tiptoes and close the distance between them.
She’d barely fallen back to the heel of her foot when she’d realized what she’d done. She no longer felt anywhere close to half asleep. She was quite suddenly very much awake.
James’ hands were no longer in his pockets, and his mouth was formed in a small ‘o,’ he seemed frozen.
She’d just kissed him goodnight.
And she very much wanted to do it again.
It was as though someone had cut the threads holding them apart at the same time, because one moment they were frozen in time, staring at each other, and then next they were connected by their lips.
The tension from the day that he settled in her shoulders and neck, started to dissipate as James’ arms wrapped around her and held her close. She sighed into his mouth and let her fingers find their way into his hair.
The kiss couldn’t have been over as quickly as it seemed, because she was breathless by the time she pulled away. She felt a bit like a fish out of water, but James’ arms kept her steady.
“What was that?” He asked, his voice low and gravely. Lily tried her best to refrain from shivering at the sound.
She pressed her lips together and bit down on the tip of her tongue. “That was, um,” Lily cleared her throat and took a small step back. “That was definitely a non-homework related activity.” She nodded and then picked up her bag, slinging it over her should with slightly unsteady hands.
James looked a bit like he’d been hit over the head with something very large.
“It’s almost three in the morning.” She said, was this an explanation or just a general statement? “But ah, we should probably revisit this tomorrow.”
James blinked. “Tomorrow.”
Lily nodded. “Yes.”
And then he was smiling at her. “Right-o, Evans. It’s a date.”
“Yeah,” Lily agreed. “Yes, you should definitely wake me up more often.”
James licked his lips and then reached over and tucked a lock of hair back. “I’ll do my best.”
