Headcanon: 

When Alex goes to record at a studio some ways from where Maya lives, he works his schedule around hers and the mismatched time-zones, calling her with ill-concealed excitement whenever he writes a song. It becomes a little routine of theirs. At a certain time every day she awaits his call and nine times out of ten he delivers, his phone on speaker beside him and his guitar in tow as he plays his latest creation to her.
