My brother and sister had the More Of The Monkees album and it is one of my earliest musical memories listening to it. Notice I said had...because I now have that very album I listened to... Anyway, in the midst of Beatlemania, the American entertainment system did what it does best...creates a copy. And in the case of the Monkees, they got a good one. But they didn't realize just how good until many years later. This was the first album produced for release with the TV show. The band contributed all vocals but stirred up controversy by having all the music performed by session players. This was just the first time that the band and the studios would have different visions. But in any case, the album turned out pretty great with both the main theme for the show, and a number one hit with Last Train To Clarksville. This album is sometimed forgotten in lieu of the much more commercially successful More Of The Monkees six months later. The show itself lasted only two years, but the music has endured. Listening to it now, you can see their progression and also their talent even in this first offering.
