Vogue Knitting, Fall 2021
This issue has a wide range of projects from the bright, blocked colors you see on the cowl on the cover to subtle shades for sweaters with a total of 18 patterns, most of them sweaters.
On the cover, you see the simple cowl called Perpendicular by the VK Design Team which is rated very easy and done in Fairmont Fibers Cardo which is a wool. The next picture gives you Corner Block scarf/stole by Fatimah Hinds which is a mere 2 out of 4 on difficulty and measures 21″ by 72″ in Hikko/Skacel Collection Sueno Worsted which a mix of wool and viscose. You can wear it as a scarf, but at that size, it works as a stole.
The sweaters range from simple looking to this complex design by Maria Molodova called Kent which has smocking as well as other special stitches. It is a 3 out of 4 in difficulty and made with La Bien Aimee Merino Sport yarn. The Mella cardigan by Jimenez Joseph is the same level of challenge and is worked in the round from the top down using bird’s eye tucks on the front and the back and plain stockinette for the sleeves. The yarn is Rowan Kid Classic which gets its fuzziness from the mohair mixed with the wool.
There are interviews with makers, features by makers, book reviews, and a technical article on intarsia by Mieka John, as well as an advertising section on new yarns--I can’t be the only one who really enjoys these ads which offer both the skeins and swatches. The general instructions seems more detailed this time with a full page of techniques, so newbies should feel less intimidated.
