Here's a half-conceived concept to keep you company! MGS Ghibli movies. Which movies? Otacon makes me think Wind Rises (bonus easter egg points that Jiro was voiced by Anno lol) but at the same time the anti-war isn't as big a theme in that one so it doesn't quite fit?? Maybe he'd be more Tombo. I'm not sure about Snake... But I want Sunny to lay on Totoro-Raiden's belly.

Do you mean like... Ghibli type AU versions of the characters? (Castle in the sky is making me think of the Nomad also Giant robot?) Liquid gives me very Mononoke Hime vibes. Also part of me kept thinking about Ponyo and Sunny? Just becaues Ponyo was so bright and cute. ^^

Would you ship this (Otacon edition): Solidus/Otacon, Mei Ling/Otacon, Akiba/Otacon, Drebin/Otacon, Meryl/Otacon, Raiden/Otacon

Solidus/Otacon: I sort of don’t have doki doki feelings about Solidus? Like... don’t get me wrong, he was right about a lot of things, but I don’t get the ROMANSU sparkles when I think about him. That being said I’m sure in the dark corners of the internet there is some delightful nsfw.

Mei Ling/Otacon: Okay... these two seem to be a common duo when people want to talk HS AU with me, just like, people think they would hang out/have a lot in common. (They both went to MIT, so there’s that!) I think this is the sort of thing that I could see like... they might both think the other was cute or attractive but I can’t see it being serious... but they’d be good friends. Maybe the sort of “we went on two or three dates and that was nice but not life changing”.

Akiba/Otacon: Let these nerds geek out and make out.

Meryl/Otacon: I honestly don’t think Meryl would find anything remotely attractive about Otacon, other than his willingness to let her be in charge, but even then it’s not the sort of “I *could* do this, but I’m deferring to you” that she gets with Johnny so much as a “I’m genuinely afraid you’ll punch me so I’m not going to argue”. NG.

Raiden/Otacon: Okay, even though Raiden is like the only straight person in this entire game series... maybe there’s a little part of me that things that years after MGS4 something could happen in a “we understand each other” kind of way. I think the two could be good support for each other, and maybe it wouldn’t be the healthiest relationship but it would be something to rely on. Also we all know how I feel about Raicon from the fusion AU

anemone: how old were you when you first started writing?

The first story I remember writing was back in first grade and we did a lot of what our teacher called “writing workshops” where we were just encouraged to write as many stories as we could on little booklets we stapled together out of newsprint. If we did a rough draft that was interesting enough, we could do a final draft on “nice” paper with pens and markers etc. My teacher liked my story about “The Cat Who Wanted to Fly” enough to take me to a weekend writing workshop thing.

The basic story was something like “Young cat wants to fly. Asks everyone why he can’t, gets a lot of “I don’t know” and keeps looking for answers. Finally finds someone who explains ‘You don’t have wings or feathers’ and he’s like “oh okay” and moves on with his life.” ...I realize that doesn’t sound particularly inspirational, but as a six-year old metaphors were not something I understood, but as a curious child I dealt with a lot of frustration regarding not getting answers to my “Why?” questions.

baby’s breath: about how many fics have you completed? 

It’s sort of hard to count when you factor in things like fics I wrote with a partner, little tumblr challenges/drabbles etc- but it looks like the number rests somewhere in the 63 range, if I go ahead and include the not-very-good X-Men stories I wrote in high school. It’s mostly Metal Gear but a small smattering of webcomic based stories and even MegaMind. XD

lavender: what is the most important thing to you as a writer?

When I think about the stories that I’ve written that are most important to me, things like comments or “the amount of attention this got” are kind of important in a self gratifying way, but not just because of their numbers. The stories that hold a place in my heart are the ones where I think I was effectively able to share something personal, be it an experience or just a particular kind of feeling- and then using these familiar characters as a sort of “shorthand”, I’m able to get total strangers to empathize with what I’m feeling and processing. That’s sort of crazy, when you think about it. 

As nice and warm and fuzzy as it is to get half a dozen “OMSQUEE. THIS IS CUTE I LOVE IT” comments (and I do love them!!!) the words from readers that really stick with me are the ones where people ask questions or share their own feelings because something I’ve managed to put down into words really resonated with them and they recognized some part of themselves in it.
