The following is a chronology of what happened to Ms Y, from the time she arrived in the Republic on March 28th until her infant was delivered by Caesarean section in August, when she was 26 weeks pregnant. It draws on the first draft report from the Health Service Executive (HSE) on her care, which states on each of its 78 pages: “This is a draft document and can only be considered as such. This document can be expected to contain factual/clinical inaccuracies and/or information that may require additional clarification.”

What IS Amendment 8 of the Irish Constitution?

Well, in 1983, abortion was already illegal in Ireland under Offences against the Person Act 1861. The 8th Amendment enshrined the anti-choice bullshit in our constitution with the statement: 

"The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right." 

Oh, and apparently "due regard to the equal rights to life of the mother" evidently means NO regard. 

In fact, while the prison sentence for a convicted rapist is 7 years, those who attempt abortions in the state risk 14 years in prison. That's how much we matter to this state.

It's time we get this OUT of the constitution.

Hi Tumblr! Look, there's an abundance of awful things happening in the world right now. There's no end of things to be angry about and want to change. I love how Tumblr is such a great platform to share these wrongs with the world and gain solidarity. 

I love Ireland for a lot of reasons, but I feel like the state doesn't love me! We're working so hard to get attention to the case of a young migrant woman asking for an abortion on the grounds of her feeling suicidal about having a baby, being refused, being force-fed when she went on hunger strike and then being forced to undergo a cesarean birth. We cannot let this stand I really hope my followers will reblog and talk about this case!

REPEAL THE 8TH AMENDMENT TO THE IRISH CONSTITUTION!
