Diane listens quietly as Riley speaks, taking in everything he says with a mixture of worry and surprise...and sadness. She met Roark herself at the shelter in Fuchsia City. He'd seemed nice -- troubled, certainly, but he'd just attended his mother's funeral. He'd said some things that stuck with her then, and their infrequent meetings here at the base had always been pleasant. He'd even given her Lycan the Zorua kit not so long ago.
For all his seeming oddities, she'd never have guessed how deep his mental issues truly ran. It doesn't make her think less of him, or worse of him: it only makes her worry for him.
Diane wishes again that she were better-versed in human medical treatment. She can perform first-aid, give physicals, and administer shots to both humans and Pokemon, but anything more than that is still beyond her. She doesn't know about medicine, about side-effects, about any more than the most well-known blood disorders, like haemophilia and leukemia...
...but she does, at least, know about blood counts. It's part of her routine physical procedures, after all.
She smiles at Riley, relieved that this is something she can do for him and for Roark. "It is important," she insists. "And I can do blood counts, so that shouldn't be a problem. If it would help, I can even give copies of the results to you, along with the medical staff here."
She pauses for just a moment, considering whether to speak or not...but it seems an important point to make, so she presses gently on. "You know...even though he is a member of Team Rocket, that doesn't necessarily bar him from treatment at a regional hospital. It would take a fabricated ID, of course, but there's nothing barring him from medical treatment if it's beyond what our facilities here can accommodate. I think...your biggest hurdle might be Roark himself, in that regard. If he despises hospitals and doctors so intensely, you'll need to convince him that it's necessary. But if you can, you'd only need to speak with an Executive about a fake ID and doctored records. You don't need to feel helpless or hopeless," she finishes, smiling across the desk. "And you shouldn't feel useless, either. I'm sure that Roark is going to need your support, moving forward. ...so don't give up, all right?"
