Mihri twirled the ring around her finger with a smile. Each facet of the modest stone illuminated a different memory—fireside chats under the cover of night at Haven, a blurry outline of saviour in the snow, a tired yet comforting dance under the watchful eyes of the Winter Palace. Not all memories of that time were pleasant, sure, but it was as they said. Time heals most wounds. It was difficult to imagine what her life would have become if not for the Inquisition. Perhaps she would have died with— no. If it had not been for the Inquisition, she wouldn’t have had them. They made the suffering into the distant memories they were.

“Mama, look!”

The shout pulled her from her thoughts and back to the curly-haired boy in front of her. He beamed, brandishing a small toad and waving it too furiously. The poor thing. It was only a common toad, one they often found in the garden.

“Oh, isn’t he cute? You should show him to Baba.”

Cullen looked up, wide-eyed, from the book he’d been reading across the garden. She bit back a grin as he narrowed his eyes at her — she knew he hated the slimy things.

17. Who fell in love first?

Mihri, actually! There was definitely mutual attraction pretty early on, but Cullen usually just dismissed her flirting as something she did with everyone. And honestly, it did start out that way — she flirted because he was cute, so why not? But over time, as they got to know each other more, she realized that it wasn’t just a physical attraction. She… loved him?

26. How do they comfort each other?

Mihri is very physically affectionate, so lots of hands on hands/faces, hugs, kisses. Cullen quickly picks up on this and learns to reciprocate. He also tends to default to reassurances that he loves her, that things will be alright. It just falls back onto what their love languages are — physical touch for her, words of affirmation for him.

34. Do they give each other nicknames?

Honestly, nothing more than typical pet names — love, vhenan, dear later on. Their names aren’t very nickname-able in the basic sense imo, which sucks.

So I originally tossed around an actual cute, happy "look at my new outfit, babe!" sort of fic. I really did want it to be sweet. But then I got horny instead and thought about cute little subby sub Cullen because it's my weakness.

I write in little pieces and then eventually glue them back together, so here's some misc stuff I have written down for this so far. No actual smut (or what I would personally count as smut? my scale is a little off...) just general light dom/sub dynamics.

“This is new, and I don’t want it damaged,” Mihri warns. “If you do a good job, I’ll reward you. Do you understand?”

Cullen nods in agreement and reaches for a pauldron before she slaps his hand away.

“Use your words. Do you understand?”

The left gauntlet slides from her forearm, and Cullen brings her hand to his lips to replace it with a light kiss on her knuckles. Mihri raises an eyebrow, fighting the urge to beam at the gesture. He’s testing her, as he always does, pushing her to reprimand him. You are too kind to me, he always tells her once they’ve finished. I don’t want kind. She doesn’t know how to be anything else with him.

“Did I tell you to do that?”

“No, Inquisitor.”

💓 - What are some signs they’ve fallen for someone? How do they show their affection?

Mihri is big on actions and gifts. She's like a little crow - if she likes you, she gives you trinkets that she finds that remind her of you. Cullen isn't really sure what he's supposed to do with a shiny little red rock that he is told looks like his armor (debatable), but it will go in his trunk with the other miscellaneous junk she's dragged back to Skyhold for him.

I talked about it in a previous ask, but she's sort of a compulsive liar. So while she does tell people that she loves them and cares for them, she thinks it means more when she does things for them. Saying 'I love you' can be too easy sometimes. It's easy to fake. But doing something for someone? It takes effort, so she thinks that's a better way to show love.

Also, I was actually just working on one of those "understand my ship in 5 mins" things the other day, so I was just thinking about this! I think the affection through actions is a big point of conflict for her and Cullen. He comes off as someone who leans more towards affection through words, imo anyway.

🎨 - What’s their favorite color?

Green! Fuck the rifts, it just happens to be a coincidence that they are also green. Mihri is the type of person to just vibe with a color without having any deep meaning about it. If you asked her why she liked green, she'd just stare at you. "Uh, because it looks nice? I don't know?"

I actually tend to associate her with turquoise, though. She just does what she wants anyway. Somewhat relevant and because I haven't stopped obsessing about it for 2 weeks, you can see her inquisitor sentinel armor here on my Twitter (this pic isn't lewd, but my Twitter overall is 18+, so fair warning). It's a great mashup of us both getting what we want. She can have her green, and I'll have my turquoise. 🎲 - Pick a random question to answer from this list.

🧑‍🍼 - How do they feel about kids?

So I ended up choosing this question because it's been an interesting thing to me in developing Mihri. Maybe it'll be interesting to others, too!

I don't super love being around children. I have zero desire to have children of my own and never have. This tends to work out with OCs usually. They're my creations, right? I can do whatever I want with them. But Mihri is an interesting little enigma.

Pretty early on in my attachment to her, it just hit me that she would want kids so badly. A modest amount, just one or two. This has kind of sent me down a spiral as far as scenes I have written, want to write, etc. I even picked out names. They are not elven, and there is a reason for that that I'll elaborate on eventually. Probably. But the names are Dahlia Maeve and Nathaniel Oliver 💖

WIP Wednesday

Ope I got tagged in WIP Wednesday posts by @rosella-writes and WIP Word Search by @blarrghe. My word search words were beg, chill, evening and candle.

I didn't have anything on hand for beg, chill, or candle shockingly, though I have some ideas about 'beg'. My 'evening' result was something I'd sort of started for Sucktember before I decided to not participate, so I'm recycling it for Kinktober next month. This totally isn't the one thing you've already read if you're on Discord.
