Glitter, gyrating men and neon lighting wasn't exactly Baz's scene but the shifts he picked up at random to work the doors of different establishment did give him two benefits he couldn't pass up -- extra money and a chance to hang around the blonde bartender without it being weird.

( That and he's been told his mean mug was perfect for making people rethink arguing about being told not tonight. )

It was an even stranger place to be on the wrong end of 2 in the morning, when the mass excitement had worn down and there was no one to throw singles at.

"Some chick nearly swung out of my arm when I stopped her from falling out of here raving about Mystic Mikayla." It wasn't the first time either that he heard she had a skill that wasn't relegated to being necessary to tending bar, and his interest was piqued. First words

She read somewhere that if you you talk to an infant the same way you would to an adult it betters their developmental skills. So Kate spends her time addressing Taylor the same way she would one of her peers. The only difference is that she refers to herself in 3rd person as Mama so Tay can get used to that title. One day when she’s unloading groceries, Taylor is all set up in her high chair and Kate’s prattling on about something or other, Taylor starts to babble."Mama was worried that Uncle Clint would be a futzing dummy and not say a damn word about it. As it would turn out, I was futzing corr-""Futz."Kate froze and looked over at her tiny daughter, who had the biggest grin on her face."Futz," she repeated gleefully. —Kayla is understandably upset that she missed it, but laughs so hard when she finds out that she has to pause and catch her breath.

Blackmail

"No," Kate says, absolute certainty in her voice, "I will not do that. I don’t care what you have on me."Kayla crawls across the bed to where her girlfriend is standing before kneeling in front of her."C’mon, baby," the blonde purrs, "just this once. And I won’t have to tell everyone what I let you do to me last weekend."Kate raises an eyebrow as Kayla places her hands on Kate’s hips."Please? For me?" Her voice is pleading as her thumbs press into her hipbones. Kate caves and pushes Kayla back onto the bed, jumping on top of her with a growl. "You’re not saying a damn word to anyone, Kay."

Nursery

It takes some twisting of Kayla’s arm for her to agree to a purple nursery. They paint it together and end up having sex before they even get started.The crib is a gift from Thor and is made of some Asgardian wood that had to go through customs once they came through the Bifrost. 

Not surprisingly, the only argument that they have is over the wall art that Kate comes up with.

"No way, Kate. Hell no.""What is wrong with this? It’s important to me and it’s classy. Also hello, super badass!"Kayla rubs her face and shakes her head."They’re arrows, Kate. You can’t hang arrows in a baby’s nursery. And she’s an infant, she doesn’t need to be badass!"

There are no arrows in her purple nursery when Taylor finally comes home. There are, however, arrows painted on the wall above her crib. Compromise is a beautiful thing.

First steps

Kate misses it because she’s making dinner. Somewhere between getting married and becoming a mom she learned how to cook and she takes it very seriously. She hears Kayla yelling for her in the other room and it doesn’t sound like life-or-death so she takes her time getting there.When she walks in she sees Taylor toddling over to Kayla and she screams.The noise makes their little girl fall back on her butt in a very adorable fashion and Kayla looks up at her with a shrug."I called for you."Thank god for Kayla’s obsession with filming everything Taylor does.
