My hometown lost one of our rock and roll radio disc jockeys today after an announcement went out last week that he was going into hospice. Arlo was on local channels since 1975 and was still so enthusiastic about everything and so fun to listen to on his shifts. His band history segments and stories about rock stars at events were a big part of what got me into researching band histories as deep as I do, with all the stuff I heard in the back of the car as a kid.

It’s a loss that pretty much hits me as hard as my favorite band members.

John Lodge, bassist, singer, and co-writer in The Moody Blues. Interviewed by Mike Arlo, a Southeast VA radio disc jockey of 51 years. Both some of the kindest souls in their line of work who did what they loved right up to the end of their lives.

This interview was done prior to one of John’s shows in March of 2023. Around a minute in begins a conversation about the early recording process of music and dealing with analogue recording tape and what editing entailed with some good laughter at the end.
