Break Free From Your OS Chains - Discover and Create Your Personalized Computer
Gone are the days where a consumer would buy a computer and have to deal with the same look and style of their Vista, Windows 7, or Snow Leopard until their computer eventually crashes beyond repair. With the recent buzz for the release of the new Windows 8, there has been an abundance of browsers and operating systems in news circulation amongst the blogosphere.
There are many ways you can edit your computer to create a fun and personalized user interface. There are operating systems, such as Windows 8 that is providing free developer and customer preview downloads, as well as Chrome OS, which has several free user-created versions for free download. There are also themes you can download to mimic these operating systems, without the risk of losing your original operating system.
To safely download an operating system you should backup your computer prior to installation to make sure your computer will be safe and recoverable should anything go wrong. Installing and operating system is risky, so you should definitely be very cautious about backing up your data, and making sure the download is from a website that is trustworthy.
The above photo is my newly designed desktop, designed after the new Windows 8 operating system. I personally chose to download a Windows 7 to 8 converter pack, which modifies several traits of my operating system to run as Windows 8 would. It can also be uninstalled in minutes, eliminating any risk of a permanent operating system move. The converter pack, however, did not modify my user interface completely, ie. my desktop, so I also chose to download a Windows 8 theme to complete my Windows 8 experience. Below are several links to help you in getting your Windows 8, either by getting it from the consumer/developer preview from Microsoft, or downloading a transformation pack and theme. The choice is all yours.

The new Chrome OS is still being developed in a collaborative manner with developers and Google execs, but there are several versions which have been created for free download by users, such as Chrome OS Lime, and Chrome OS Vanilla. I personally am loving my new "Windows 8 experience" and would definitely like to buy it once it is released. Until then, I'll continue to play on my half-capable version, and see what we can do with the new capabilities while enjoying my social network desktop shortcuts.
What do you think of downloading a new operating system or computer theme? Does this make your computer more personal, or just more frustrating and confusing?
