conformitygate/Mike gets vecna'd but the vision that vecna puts Mike in lasts for decades. Like Mike grows old, maybe even marries and has kids. He becomes an author, he writes a famous novel, everything. he lives an actual, semi-fulfilling life, and it feels so real.

so when the Party finally free him, Mike is terrified and distressed, because now he's 16 years old again, and everything he thought he knew for the past like 40 years suddenly is proven to be fake. he never grew old, he never met the people he met, he never wrote a book, he never graduated, etc.

and this extends to others too; sometimes Mike mentions or asks about things that never happened, stuff only he remembers. he'll bring up a funny moment and everyone stares at him in confusion until Mike remembers it was just part of the elaborate illusion.

if he did have kids in the fake world, maybe he cherished them to the point it feels like he actually lost them, and now he's grieving them like they were real. he has painful dreams of this life he was so sure he lived.
