Jim Payne on Hot Hits 106 WMAR-FM Baltimore | 1983
WMAR-FM Hot Hits 106 Baltimore – Jim Payne – 1983 Courtesy: Nicholas Lemonakis In the late 1970s & very early 1980s, many radio programmers thought Top 40 radio was dying, or already dead. Many Top 40 stations, who were primarily on AM radio, were sounding more like Adult Contemporary stations. They were kind of soft, low energy, and, kind of dull. In the 60s & 70s, the…

Billy Burke, Hot Hits 98 WCAU-FM Philadelphia | November 27 1981
Pure, uncut, Hot Hits! This is what the Hot Hits Format sounded like when radio consultant Mike Joseph installed the format on 98 WCAU-FM in 1981.
Lots of energy, lots of the original TM Fusion jingles, and lots of quick jock banter into jingles, out of jingles, over jingles. A jingle is played after EVERY element, which adds to the energy. This aircheck is actually the OVERNIGHT show! I…

First of all big thanks to Mike Joseph for providing the voices for this short film! i couldn't have done it without his help! everyone go check out his channel! - https://www.youtube.com/user/EyesadriftVA -
Well this is the big project that has kept me so busy for the last few months! My first short film, Rammed. its been a great experience from start to finish and i'm really excited to finally post it! This was made for one of my classes called 2d production where the whole point is the make a short film over the coarse of the 10 week coarse. in order for you to get the film done in ten weeks it has to be REALLY short which caused some hiccups for me because i wanted to tell a longer story but i think the finished product is a fun story too!
106.5 was HOT! The station known now as Mix 106-5 was Hot Hits 106, WMAR-FM; sister to WMAR-TV (Channel 2) and The Sunpapers. Hot Hits came to Baltimore sometime in 1983 (it was hard to pin down in the Sunpaper archives.) They joined a storied group of radio stations consulted by Mike Joseph. Before Hot Hits 106, WMAR-FM was a beautiful music station. It also changed call letters to WRLX a year before returning to it’s original call letters. It should also be noted that this is the second incarnation of WMAR-FM. This page already highlighted the first went off the air in the 1950s.
Now in terms of the master recording, Hot Hits 106 is the second most recorded station. Stay tuned for the most recorded station...you should probably know who that is by now.
In the meantime, check out SteveMcVie.com to learn more about Mike Joseph’s Hot Hits.
