Sarracenia leucophylla in the Wild!

A few days ago, I received an email complimenting my previous post about Sarracenia leucophylla in the wild, and asking if I had any more S. leucophylla photos to share. In fact, I do! Unfortunately, much like my S. flava photos, I don't have many and my memory of locations is a little fuzzy.

S. leuco at Site 1

The first two photos are of S. leuco at what I'm going to call Site 1. I don't remember, exactly where this site was - Florida or Alabama - but I do recall that it was a pretty shaded site. The Sarrs were being pushed out by the trees. This was a result, of course, of the lack of wildfires burning over the savannas due to humans disliking things like that, and the natural progression of savannas into woodlands.

Here, again, although fuzzy, you can see how the S. leucos were being crowded out by larger shrubs and trees. Considering these photos were take about a decade ago, I doubt that there are any plants left at Site 1, unless someone stepped in and started clearing brush.

A few months ago I asked Mike Wang if the fantastic field of plants in Perdido, Alabama still existed. His answer, unfortunately, was a firm, but definite "no." So these photos are now a historic relic, a record of something that used to exist, a fantastic field of white topped S. leucophylla.

It's always sad to hear that such a wonderful stand of plants has been destroyed. There were so many! I thought it impossible that they'd ever go away. Unfortunately, urban developers disagreed. This really was one of the best stands of S. leucophylla that I ever found in my explorations of the Gulf Coast.

For those of you interested, I believe this may be one-and-the-same as the famous (and now destroyed), Hurricane Creek site, source of S. leucophylla 'Hurricane Creek White'. I'm not exactly sure that it is the same site, as Hurricane Creek isn't too far from Perdido, but, as you can read here, my recollection of the plants found this field was the same as those claimed to be at the Hurricane Creek site.

NBA 2K13 Developer Insight #2 Features Nudging, Holding Out Balls Like Kobe

NBA 2K13's Senior Game Designer Mike Wang, Assistant Producer Jerson Sapida, Senior Producer Rob Jones, and Producer Zach Timmerman are back again to give some more 411 on what's new in this year's edition of the best basketball video game franchise THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN.

Sorry EA Sports, you gotta step up your game, cause since the first 2K came out in 1999 you've been gettin' stomped. But you obviously know that already. By the way, I just found the first video I've seen of NBA Live 13 and it looks fuckin' hideous. You can check it out here on Kotaku. EA is claiming that it's an early alpha build, but damn.  As hideous as the NBA Live series is going, I'm loving NCAA Football 13. The mode where you use former Heisman winners on current teams is fuckin' amazing so far. I put RGIII on the Wazzu Cougs, I wanted to see how he would do in a Mike Leach offense. It's gonna be hard not to tank it against the Huskies.
