I can’t believe it’s been a year since #MikeWarren passed. When his book originally came out in 2007, I, along with @jaxon_grant, @carterjbanks and others were publishing our stories on BlackMen4Now.com. I was using the names #jwellspeaks and #mikefocker—holding it down for the anonymous/DL brothers who didn’t want their business known. The only authors in print in our genre that had publishing deals at the time were #ELynnHarris (RIP), #JamesEarlHardy, #StanleyBennettClay, @leehayes9454, #ReginaldHall, #LMRoss and #shaneallison. He would join their ranks, initially with Maryland & North Carolina based Life Changing Books. When I’d managed a bookstore and had my own mobile book store, I’d sell plenty copies of this book. Mike bravely talked about the men who served their country and found a way to make it in this lifestyle. After seeing the other two books in his series, SWEET SWAGGER & SIR, YES SIR with the publisher and selling in major book stores, he would strike out on his own. Here, he would thrive as one of the leading black LGBTQ voices in our generation. Novels and short stories poured out. I was blessed that my books were often tagged with his and that people discovered other authors through his works. I’m glad that I got to talk to him a few times while he was on this earth, even happier that he and my ex-wife had their own friendship. I wish him well in the afterlife and his family peace during time. In closing, if you haven’t had a chance to get one of his books, please do so. START WITH THIS ONE!!! I will share links of his books throughout the next two days in his honor. The link to this book will be in the comments below.
