“I… my finger slipped,” Siobhan offered weakly, her attempt at justification dying mid-air.

The truth was she’d been absolutely juiced when she stumbled across Surelu’s ‘It’ll Do’ Liquidations online. Why wouldn’t an ex-display 1980s Tartosan Space Frog bedroom set be a good idea? Delivery and fitting included. Redecorating thrown in. It was practically charity. Sure, it wasn’t the familiar cosy vibe of their old room—but it certainly had character.

Mikel stared at the alien bedroom, genuinely stunned into silence by this unexpected development. Still… he supposed he’d learn to live with it.

Back at home, perhaps sensing the diabolical drama that was about to unfold, Montague decided it was finally time to leave the mortal coil.

As the least problematic member of the Aherne family, he had lived a long, happy life. Now, it was simply his time to go.

Naturally, his family were devastated, none more so than Mikel, who had been with him ever since they had first spawned into existence together in Create-a-Sim.

With one determined blow, Niamh extinguished her birthday candles and joined her older sisters in teenagerhood.

Her childhood love of dogs had only deepened over the years, and she now planned to extend that devotion to every animal unfortunate enough to cross her path.

Keely, Burton and their friends gathered in front of the house as Mikel wrestled with the camera settings.

“Okay everyone, squeeze in! And keep it PG with my daughter!” he called, only half joking.

Keely rolled her eyes. As she wondered when her dad had become so cringe, Mikel found himself wondering exactly the same thing.

Siobhan watched with quiet pride. Niamh and Finn wandered into frame briefly before becoming distracted by something infinitely more interesting.

Under normal circumstances, Clementine's absence would have been conspicuous.

Tonight, with everyone focused on prom, no one noticed she was missing.

“My dear Bryant?” she gasped. “He’s passionate, but he would never hurt someone. Was your daughter wearing polyblends? Does she have a tattoo? He was probably encouraging her to re-evaluate her choices—for our Lord.”

“My daughter, Keely, has been through something monumental to get where she is,” Mikel said, patience thinning. “Bryant has been giving her grief since primary school.”

“Keely… Keely… oh!” Nancy brightened, or attempted to. “Your child is the one who suffers from those ungodly delusions. Yes, my son has been trying to steer yours onto the right path for years. Perhaps the message wasn’t sinking in and he became a touch over-excited.”

“My daughter is fine, you blow-up—”

“Perhaps you’re unfamiliar with my family’s work,” Nancy steamrolled on. “We have several videos about leaving delusions behind and returning to the righteous path. It was the morning of Clementine’s birthday. Siobhan was in the kitchen, determinedly constructing a hamburger cake while being “helped” by Keely, Niamh, and Finn — a word here meaning actively hindering in an enthusiastic manner. Clementine had submitted a very specific burger brief, and Siobhan was determined to fulfill it.

While most of the household descended into culinary chaos, Clementine relaxed in the living room, watching cartoons and enjoying exclusive time with her currently favoured parent, Mikel. She was suspiciously calm. Possibly because she understood that any misconduct might result in entering her teenage years directly from timeout.

Elsewhere, Burton took it upon himself to handle the sudden Harvestfest gnome invasion. He moved carefully, offering appeasement gifts with reverence. He’d dealt with their kind before — in the imaginary realm — and knew better than to test their patience now that he possessed a fully destructible physical form.

Finn had developed a keen interest in anything involving athletics, movement, or the general concept of running about at speed (couldn't be the Watcher...).

That said, he still made time for zombie cake.

Siobhan, however, made herself scarce. She was fully aware of the frankly alarming quantity of E-numbers in that icing, and a house full of children and teenagers on a chemical-laden sugar high did not bode well for anyone involved.
