Hi, just checking something, I think everyone hate Eri's mom and I get why....but where is she? I know the fandom is dismissive of a female character who isn't perfect but I keep wondering about what really happened to this woman.
Because she saw her husband being killed by her daughter and...what? Had the idea to leave all behind? Ok, let's do an mind exercise:
Option 1) the mother takes her passport, money and leave Eri behind all in the spam if 2 minutes as her husband is super dead and Eri is crying. Possible? Yes, but feels lazy in a narrative sense. Who would think in flee in a situation like that? And to imagine a woman who witness that- she screamed in horror if I'm not wrong- can calmly enter the airport and go to god knows where is.....very odd. Not impossible but we would need to know more the character to say "well she quit when things are difficult so ofc she would do this."
Option 2) she asks help from her father and either overhaul killed her or pops did it. I find this one plausible, as Pops mentioned how foolish she was. Again, not defending her or anything but just curious to know what happened (it sucks how no one seems to care. Her own father could have organize an execution and fandom "she is a bitch, she deserved it" yeah, because being murder will teach her being a better mother)
Option 3) overhaul sweps in and pays the mother to get Eri. I finds this unlikely as overhaul didn't know about Eri's quirk after some point nor what it could be done with said quirk.
Just to be clear, not saying that PoC or female characters can't do no wrong, not saying you can't make a PoC or female characters be a bad person ...it's a story and every story has villains, but what I'm saying here is how is so sad this fandom doesn't give a fuck about the mother and uses Eri to prop their ships. Like regardless if the mother is worse than Endy (she isn't) or not, her story deserved an ending.

Eri's Mother hm...
I don't think Hori put thought into her because she was never meant to be a character (Not even a minor character)
Though it was for a short while, I remember people defending her decision to leave Eri to Pops
It was during a debate between why people felt the old lady who left child Tenko alone was right because he looked creepy
As for the options of what may have happened, let's go through them
Option 1, Immediately after Eri accidentally rewinds her Father out of existence Eri's Mother is horrified and gives her up in fear/anger/hatred of her daughter and her quirk
(Reminds me of Toga's parents minus the giving her up part)
I think this option is probably canon from what we're told
Eri's Mother moving on and forgetting her old family since in her mind her child is a monster and her husband is dead
So for the sake of her sanity she leaves everything behind and starts again as if her past never happened
Option 2: I don't think this happened due to Pops having a code of honour, at least from what we know from Overhauls flashback
He called his daughter foolish for giving up so quickly. And if Pops is a somewhat morally good character it's probably true
Hori has shown that Heroes, people who like them or anyone against Villains have the same beliefs
Giving up is seen as a bad thing, that's why the Villains past is them doing just that (Despite the circumstances)
During the ending, Pops is a free man despite having been the head of a Yakuza Organisation
So I lean on him being on more of the good side when it comes to Morals, he lectures Overhaul to not become like a Villain during a flashback
And in present time he chastises Chisaki abusing Eri
It sounds like he didn't know Chisaki abused Eri until he woke up from his coma
That means he trusted Kai to look after his granddaughter
Option 3, Yeah Overhaul didn't know about Eri's quirk until Pops told him to look after her
The fandom doesn't think of Eri's Mother because of how minuscule her role was
All we know is that she gave Eri up due to fear/anger of her quirk
I think people hate her because they compare her to Nao Shimura who still cared about Tenko despite his quirk destroying everything including her
Eri's Mother is out there possibly with a new family, while the Shimura's who Hori sadistically loves to torture are all dead
Kotaro is also hated by the fandom, he'll never get a redemption or atonement arc, but forever be known as the main reason Tenko became Shigaraki (Aside from AFO)
