i cant stop thinking about why i hated arcane s2. arcane is so supremely frustrating because it's not a complete failure. real love, time, and care went into production - especially the animation and voice acting.

this wasn't something that was made quickly and cheaply to turn a quick buck. of course it's just a glorified advertisement for riot games, but it still had a budget of a quarter billion dollars?

and yet, season 2 failed so spectacularly. on the macro-level. how is it possible that the story is so bloated yet empty? so convoluted? so devoid of actual coherent, cogent themes, ideas, arguments, etc.? it's disappointing to see a piece of art made with so much love be so... underwhelming

it's amazing to me how much worse arcane s2 is at the line level. for example, "is there anything so undoing as a daughter" from s1 is an absolute banger. the prosody, the slight alliteration of "d" sounds, the emotion with which it was said. banger banger banger.

the lack of care in writing s2 was sooo palpable. i can't get over the vi's line to cait "she oinked poison in your ear and you drank it." the mixing of metaphor -- listening to poison and drinking it? -- is just immediately so apparent and sloppy. and they clearly thought this line WAS a banger because it was used in netflix previews during release.

so maybe none of this matters. the prose of individual lines doesn't compare to an entire story and world feeling broken and incoherent. but arcane s1 had some genuine poetics and even the one-liners that are meant to feel impactful are so awkward.

Chara is sooo absent from deltarune
