You discover the true nature of a person while lying down, vulnerable and helpless"
Your husband, who wanted to know you, UNTIL you beat him.
Your rival, who decided to know you, AFTER you beat him.
This series has so many beautiful parallels.

Every single time I look back at my failures, the steps I've taken that have led me down a less-than-ideal path... the mistakes I've made that weigh heavily on my mind, I remember one thing that eases my guilt. That any low I have fallen to or may fall to, I know I will never fumble the bag as hard as this jackass:
Actual fucking dumbass. This douche had Mizu herself giving up her path of revenge to settle down and rear horses with him. She loved him, actually fucking loved him and gave herself wholeheartedly, and he gets scared 'cuz his badass bride wiped the floor with him in a spar.
Remember folks, you can fail as many times in this godforsaken life we have, but you will never be as big of a failure as this dick.
I just noticed another Mikio/Taigen parallel.
The end of this relationship is Mizu throwing a knife at Mikio (what he thought he was teaching them), which kills him.
Awaiting the tea party with Heidi Shindo, Mizu and Taigen sort of start to bond. Mizu throws a chopstick back at him, reminiscent of Mikio’s death.
But Taigen catches it.
I feel like this symbolises the two men’s very different reactions to Mizu’s true nature and fighting ability. Mikio is caught off guard by it, Taigen is able to match it. It’s why Mikio leaves Mizu, and it’s why Taigen follows Mizu. It leads Mikio to cast Mizu aside, it leads Taigen to respect Mizu. Mikio calls Mizu a monster for it, Taigen admits Mizu is better than him.
It’s such a small thing, but it feels like Mizu goes “this is me”, and it’s Mikio’s downfall, but Taigen *catches* it.
Could also be nothing, but my brain went brr.
Everyday I think about how Mikio fumbled a baddie like Mizu
The virgin Mikio:
Got kicked out of the cool kids club. Couldn’t befriend a horse. Literally fought and killed his wife’s old mother then turned to her and said “I love you🥺”. Died from one blade to the gut. Left wife when she was being jumped by multiple people because she beat him in one ☝️ sparring session. Panics when wife shows an inch of manliness and pins him.
The Chad Taigen:
Went from poor kid to prized sword student. Overcame bullying prejudice. Protected enemy just so he could kill the enemy himself. Let enemy heal to have a fair fight. Got tortured for days on end and simply had the immunity of a cockroach. Childhood enemy disguised beats him in multiple battles and he eventually admits their skills are better than him. Got ‘really happy’ when who he thought was a man pinned him.
Ngl, this made me scream cackle when I read it, 10/10 nonnie, I love you
But for real, the villain decay of Taigen is hilarious, it’s so good because during the first part of season one my samurai scale from ‘actually the worst’ to ‘my beloved can do no wrong’ looked like this
and then they introduced Mikio and the bottom of the scale immediately dropped out to this
I notice the difference that Mikio (Mizu's former husband) claim going love Mizu but when she beat him in sparring. He called her monster.
Irony Taigen was Mizu's bully back as kids. (He didn't know she girl) after playing arousal wrestling but he felt confused (one he think mizu a guy and why he feel attract her).
When Mikio betrayed Mizu, I was definitely confused. Like, this man seemed to have loved her, seemed to respect and enjoy her company. So, what gives?
It makes a lot more sense when you look through all of their main bonding moments and see that Mikio really enjoyed teaching Mizu things. Whether it be shooting apples down with a knife, horse care, horse riding, etc., he loved to show her how to do things. The first hint we get of his nature is when he tells Mizu to slow down as she speeds ahead of him on Kai. Bro didn’t want her to surpass him
So yeah, obviously he feels confused and threatened when this young woman is significantly better than him at something that he never taught her and that he prides himself in. Peak emasculation
Pathetic fr
I want mikio so bad bro it is not funny anymore
Ayyy the first request for my OC!! tyy❤️
also were you the person who sent in the request asking if you could be the 💤 anon? If so, you actually spelled Miko so I thought you meant the girl from genshin 🤣
