The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

I feel like I should specify whether this meme in general is referring to things I wrote and actually posted or things I wrote overall, because the answers there are two different things.

In terms of things I wrote and actually posted (short list of those this year), writing Porsche's POV in Perspective was probably one of the more troublesome to me. I think also the first time I've written his POV, which is often a challenging experience (though not always; some characters I can just step into writing without much difficulty). But yeah, there's something about Porsche that resists me a little, and I have to dig harder with him to feel like I'm getting in his head.

In terms of things I did work on but haven't posted (yet! yet!!!) I'm definitely still feeling my way into writing Essek, and prodding at Silm fanfiction again has me going "did I forget how to write any of these people or did I just never know."

Congratulations on finishing the liveblog! I was definitely lowkey hoping that once you got to the ending, you could interpret it in a way that made more sense than I was able to get out of it my first read through. 😂

Road trips! (If nobody else has gotten that one. If they have, how bout vivisection?)

no one has asked road trips specifically though someone did ask the underlying trope that's the main reason I'm so into it (forced cooperation) but I'll go ahead and put myself on record as an A for this one anyway, because even when that isn't the vibe I just love watching characters get stuck in a (metaphorical) box and sent on a journey together.

but since you asked, bonus one for vivisection: I mean, giving it an A would be saying that I seek it out, which is a bit of a misnomer because that would require there to be fic in my fandoms for me to seek out which, presently, there is not. (mostly.) but if it was there to seek out: yes, I would.

...in fact I just went and checked for an ao3 vivisection tag, just in case. there's a decent 1.7k fics in there! and now I'm going to go see how many of them are for canons I know and characters I'm interested in.

look, I don't know why I'm like this. maybe I should write some vivisection fic

edit: 399 of the 1.7k are for danny phantom. what's going on in there guys, isn't that a kids show

Jingyi is lying down next to Jin Ling because Wei Wuxian only has one spare room, and even that's filled with canvases and paint and charcoal and who knows what else. He'd moved them all to side carelessly even though Jin Ling's fingers had twitched with the desire to go through them. Each one had been unique and beautiful and interesting, and it just doesn't seem fair that one person can be this talented at so many things. Figure skating, ballet, and now art? Wei Wuxian somehow seems less real than he did before Jin Ling ate his food and slept on his floor.

"Jin Ling?" he whispers. "Are you awake?"

There's a sigh and then he's turning over, eyes barely glinting in the weak light. He always looks harmless like this, in moonlight. Jingyi has never figured out a way to tell him that without getting punched. "Yeah?"

"Why did your uncle quit skating?" He'd theorized injury before, but he's still dancing, and had run through through their routines like it was nothing, even when he hasn't been skating professionally for year.

He was one of the best when he disappeared. Arguably the best. Jingyi doesn't understand.

Jin Ling is silent for so long that he thinks he's fallen asleep before he says, sounding very awake, "I don't know. He said there was nothing left to do, that he'd achieved everything he'd set out to do, but - I don't know. My parents won't talk about it and my uncle always gets mad when it's brought up, but he won't say anything."

Which uncle, he almost asks, but he knows Jin Ling is talking about Jiang Cheng. "Oh," he decides on finally. "Okay."

The mage was looking at him, expression touched with surprising nervousness. “Yes,” Fenris said. “I suppose we will.” He swung his pack off and crouched down to go through it, grimacing to himself. 

“Thank you,” the mage said quietly.

“It isn’t for you,” Fenris muttered.
