24. Pillow fort - MikoAiNagi

"Really Ai-chan?"  Nagisa asks before he launches himself across the couch and into Ai's lap.

"Really, Nagisa."

"How did you manage to never build a pillow fort ever in your life?"

"Only child.  Not a lot of friends who came over to play.  Pillow forts never seemed all that interesting to build or play in by myself."  He shrugs at the devastated look on Nagisa's face before he expertly extracts himself and heads into the kitchen.  He was sure there was some kind of cookies or something left over from the last time they had crashed at Seijuro's place.  He kind of heard Nagisa in the other room digging through one of their overnight bags but he was more focused on finding those cookies.

"We can build a pillow fort, Ai."  Nagisa wraps his arms around Ai's waist and nuzzles against the back of his neck as Ai stretches for the package he spotted on the top shelf.

"Will this be like when we built a snowman and nearly got pneumonia?  Because I could do without a repeat of that to be honest."  After he grabs the cookies he lets Nagisa tug him back towards the living room and they settle on the couch in surprisingly companionable silence.  

When they had first met and started hanging out Ai would never have guessed that Nagisa could actually enjoy silence.  He seemed too energetic and bouncy to be able to be quiet for any length of time.  But over the years Ai had learned that yes, Nagisa was generally very talkative and energized, but he also enjoyed just curling up around people and basking in their presence.  There had been many times Nagisa would take over Ai's lap and talk for awhile until he ran out of things to say and then he'd spend the afternoon just sitting there and playing games on his phone or flipping through magazines while Ai read a book or watched a movie.

Nagisa lets out a huff and settles himself into Ai's lap facing him and drops his chin onto Ai's shoulder.  "I think it would be fun to build a pillow fort with you."

"I didn't say we couldn't do it.  I just hope it doesn't turn into a fiasco."

"You say fiasco.  I say adventure."

"Believe me.  I know."  Ai chuckles and settles back against the couch with one arm wrapped around Nagisa's back and the other free to eat cookies with.  He didn't know why the cookies were so important today.  They just were, okay?

A few minutes later the door opened and Ai looked at the clock in surprise.  Sei wasn't even supposed to be done with work for another half hour at least and shouldn't have been home for close to an hour from now.  It only takes him a couple minutes to change into a pair of sweats and an old Samezuka t-shirt and then he's settling onto the couch next to them.  Nagisa takes the opportunity to shift sideways and tumble both Ai and himself more or less onto Sei's lap.

"So what's this urgent pillow fort building scenario we have going on," Sei asks.

"Nagisa you did not ask him to come home early to build a pillow fort."

"I most certainly did."

"I'd like to say I can't believe you would do that.  But I can."  Sei's fingers ruffle Ai's hair and he looks up into a smile.  God he loves that smile.

"It's okay Ai.  We were covered and I was more than happy to get out an hour early.  Believe me."  Nagisa plants a quick kiss onto Ai's cheek before rolling off the couch and bouncing to the floor.  He's immediately on his knees and looking up at Sei and Ai eagerly.

"So?  Pillow fort?  Yes?  Yes."

Two hours later they're sprawling on the floor with blankets and pillows and couch cushions strewn and stacked all around them.  It was nothing pretty and it definitely wasn't in any way functional but Ai looks at the mess around them and then to his side where Sei and Nagisa are curled against each other and he smiles.  Then he drags himself over to them and flops on top of them earning a groan from Nagisa.

"We should order pizza and eat in the pillow fort," he says and snuggles his way in between them.
