The Milanders
A family that plays together stays together. Just last week I got to fish with an amazing family. What started out to be a four hour fishing trip for two brothers turned out to be several days of fishing with the family. The Milander family from Nebraska were visiting beautiful Lake of the Ozarks on a family vacation. Lucky for me when I got the call I had a few days free. I say lucky because I got to spend time on the water with a great family. Dad Doug wanted his family to have a good time and was eager to see it happen. You could tell he really enjoyed having his family spend time with him and his wife, Gail. Family is important to Doug.
Day 1: The brothers Cameron and Colin don't get to spend much time together because they live several hours apart. Cameron is a law officer and Colin works on a huge farm. Both of the boys were great to be with and there might have been a little fishing competition between the two of them. I don't remember who caught the most but they both caught several bass. I might have stirred the stuff a little but not too bad. One of my trip highlights was when I got to slap Cameron, "the sheriff" and built to the max, and wake him up as he was asleep at the reel. First time ever I got to slap a cop and not get arrested. Oh what a feeling that was.
Day 2: Doug and Gail, what a great couple. Doug was at the dock at 5:30 sharp and was ready for the challenge. I could tell that Doug really did not want to catch a bass as much as he wanted his wife to catch one. Doug would cast a little and stare at his wife. You could tell was as happy as a lark. This was the first time that I have had a wife hit on me while fishing with her husband in the boat. Not what you think but every time she got a bite she would jerk the rod and it would slap me a good one. Doug tells a mean joke and Gail, she is definitely a keeper too. We caught several bass and Doug even performed the happy dance after one of his catches.
Day 3:
Colin and Nicole have not been dating long but I think there might be a future. Both of them caught a couple of real good ones and seemed to enjoy fishing together. I know that Nicole lined Colin out and told him several times that she would not think twice about pushing him out of the boat.
Day 4:
Cameron and Terra have children and one of them cried when I went to pick them up at the dock. I thought Cameron was going to stay at the dock but mother Terra was ready to go. Terra promptly caught a couple of bass and then resorted to just chilling out the remainder of the trip. Cameron, the man with the arms the size of normal peoples' legs, continued to turn bass inside out with his strong hook sets. Poor Fish!
Thanks, Doug. I really enjoyed meeting you and your family. I really enjoyed spending time with all of you. By the way, for the best steaks in the world Doug knows the secret. Thanks Doug. You know how to make a big boy smile.
