Your entire life you get told “oh, you’ll get it when you’re older” and you just never do. You start to hear stories about people you go to school with having sex even as young as twelve sometimes, and you don’t get it. But that’s okay, because you’re twelve, and you’ll understand when you’re older. And then you’re fifteen, sixteen, and people are dating and fucking and it’s not really a matter for public discussion unless you’re good friends with the people in question. But you’re not necessarily legal yet, so it’s still okay to not really be part of the conversation. And then you’re eighteen, and everybody is off to uni and acquiring boyfriends or girlfriends or fuck buddies or some variation thereof and working out what they like if they haven’t already. And you realise you can’t even get through a day without sex being in a song or a conversation on the bus or anywhere else. And your friends tell you about their vibrators and you f come to realise that sex is an underlying motive for almost everything, or so it seems, and you’re still just not interested. And maybe people think you’re straight edge, or maybe people think you’re super religious, or maybe your sex positive friends think you’ve absorbed a ton of shame about it and are embarrassed to admit it. Because, really, why would you not be interested? Everybody is. You’d have to be broken not to be.
