First Maryland Record for Nomada erigeronis. This male was found by Gene Scarpula on traps set on a dredge spoil island in the Chesapeake Bay (Poplar Island). Since this is a man made island, created about 20 years ago, this means it had to fly over 2 miles to get to that island and that means there has to be enough of these bees in the surrounding area that at least one blundered onto the island (Gene has recorded about 100 species on that island...all having had to do the same thing). Bees aren't so wimpy as the "Save the Bees" couch warmers might think. Sometimes they just up an save themselves. You just have to build them an island an they will come.
