KARMA IS REAL
Yesterday I was with my mother and sister in a Starbucks drive-thru. When we finally got to the window to pay, the barista informed us that the woman in front of us had paid for our drink already. Only hours before, I had read the "Pay-It-Forward" article, which stated that a chain of over 700 people "paid it forward" at a Starbucks in St. Petersburg, Florida. I asked if we could also pay for the person behind us, hoping to continue the chain or begin a new one. I don't know if the person behind us did the same, but I hope/imagine they did. Today I took my sister to a small store called Milkshake Mania. We each ordered a 'maniac'-sized dole whip float (amazing dole pineapple soft-serve in dole pineapple juice), and the total came out to $12... we had only brought $11. Trying to backtrack, I said I would just get a size smaller. However, the barista wouldn't hear of it, and simply took a dollar out of the tip jar to cover the cost. She noticed that we had skateboarded through the 96+ degree heat to get there, and passed on a little kindness. Tomorrow I plan to come back and put $1 back in the tip jar or something. Although these two seemingly small and unrelated incidents don't appear significant, they both hit me hard emotionally. It's nice to know that, with all the horrible things going on recently, people can still show a little kindness. I know from now on I am going to make an effort to be kinder to people as well.
