Winter Wonderland by adcristal Via Flickr: New Haven, Connecticut does not often become a serence, winter wonderland. I had a two or three hour window after the January 17-18 snow storm to capture sunrise in a snow covered New Haven before the temperature skyrockets and the wind picks up. As I was hiking through East Rock Park, snow and ice fell from the tree tops giving the feel of a snow storm falling from the clear blue sky. Are there a lot of running trails around Smith?

There are a lot of trails behind Smith’s campus along the Mill River that are great to run on, including a solid 4 mile loop that starts and ends on campus. There is also the Norwottuck Rail Trail which is a biking and walking path that goes through Northampton, Hadley, and Amherst (running all the way down it and back is about 9 miles; pictures here). Both of the wooded trails behind Smith and the Rail Trail are beautiful especially during the Fall months. Another run that I often do is to Cooley Dickinson Hospital, through/around the park next to it, and back to Campus, which is along Elm Street (a main road). It’s less visually appealing, but easier if I want a shorter run (somewhere between 2 and 3 miles).

Alma and I went walking by the river and saw an amazingly close hawk. It was great to get away from the stress of finals and wander a bit. Anna

Lynnie and I went walking along the river this Friday and it was gorgeous. The trees are finally blooming again and it's a perfect little haven away from school (and my responsibilities sometimes too!). Anna
