Starting off on this trip, I wasn’t sure whether it would be too windy outside to get to Millcove. The wind was much fresher in the inner harbour, and i shook out two reefs as i progressed. The sea, as often in a south easterly, was fairly sloppy. However, beating with the tide got me to my destination, all be it with the occasional dousing of spray. 

It was so hot that day that I went for a swim. A first for me, but if this weather keeps up it won’t be the last! Oh and as you may have already guessed, my camera is waterproof.

Sail #4 - 27/05/16

A light southeasterly and a flood tide took me to Millcove for an over-nighter. It was a beat all the way there and when the wind got very light at the mouth of the harbour, I thought about heading back in. Getting out into the flood tide helped progress, and a second wind came in when I was close to Tralong harbour so I pressed on to Millcove.

As you can see from the photos, it’s shark season, and there were a number of basking sharks feeding at the surface despite the overcast conditions.

Sail #28 Day 4

The form was much better the next morning and as there was no wind, I decided to pack up the tent immediately and row around to get a proper look at the castle in Castle Bay. The castle is on a sea stack and has featured on here before, I swore last year I would get a closer look. This was the best chance I was going to get!

Friday, May 16th, 2014.

The pier is probably the only place that has phone reception in Millcove. Obviously you should always tell someone where you are going, when dinghy cruising, and text them when you get there. So it is best to be thinking about this when you arrive, before you go up a creek, without reception!
