"Heaven is a city much like San Francisco." Every once in a while a play comes along that speaks to your very soul. Angels IS that play for me. Read it over and over again, obsessed over HBO mini series whilst at uni. #TonyKushner was and continues to be my hero. Seeing it live on stage yesterday meant EVERYTHING. I went into it not expecting anything, afraid it would not live up to my expectations. And... I don't have one bad thing to say about it! For such a big production there was room for lots of missteps and yet, there were none. The performances were exceptional - rip-roaringly funny one second and gut-wrenching the next. The stakes were always high and the characters always believable! The sets were stunning to look at whilst serving the narrative perfectly - never gimmicky, never getting in the way. The puppetry was sheer magic, the sound design epic. But above all, I was left feeling hopeful about British theatre - Marianne Elliott's got us covered! Angels In America is directed to an inch of its life and yet, it never feels stiff. My utter gratitude to everyone who worked on this production. Best 8 hours I've spent in a dark room, possibly ever. #angelsinamerica #nt #marianneelliott #millenniumapproaches #perestroika 🌈 (at Angels in America at the National Theatre)
