FT: Being the Only Man in Mermaid Heel — Headcannons
You walked into the guild by accident when you first arrived.
You were originally looking for Sabertooth, but your compass was off and took you somewhere else. But you thought you were at the right place! You had to.
You thought maybe all the male members went on a mission that day.
During your first day, all the women gave you either stank eyes or tried to hide their laughter from you. So embarrassing.
Risley approached you and welcomed you with a with beaming smile and asked if you were lost. And she’s been the nicest guild member to you since.
At first, Kagura simply told you to leave and that you didnt belong. But you were persistent. Every guild before being in Mermaid Heel rejected you due to not “fitting the standard” they were looking for.
You were a celestial wizard for one. Many guys joked and laughed that only women were known to have held that magic.
You weren’t a brawler and you had a fighting style that was more long ranged and used summons, to dudes that ment you were a coward in battle.
Kagura just clicked her teeth, oh she’ll let you in, but you were going to have to work for it…
The first few months were cleaning the guild floors, bartending, picking up orders and parcels for certain members, coffee runs every morning, all Kagura’s idea…
Risley and the farmer girl Beth said that doing chores around the guild might smooth over with Kagura in the long run.
It somewhat did.
You gain the trust of your guild mates and most of them didn’t mind your presence.
Milliana was easy to talk to, conversations with her never seemed slow or awkward. Much to Kagura’s dismay, Milliana liked talking to you and you two were too well acquainted with each other.
“Awwwwwww, it’s my fav bartender!” She already had a nickname for you and she loved teasing you with it.
“Can I get milk?”
“Miliana, this a bar.”
“As Kagura’s right hand woman, I order you to go buy some milk tomorrow!” She proclaimed, puffing out her chest dramatically, making you sigh lowly.
If it wasn’t for Milliana and Risley, you would’ve been kicked from the guild long ago.
Risley finds you being a celestial wizard intriguing and wants to spare with you almost every day. You thank her for the practice, otherwise you’d be rusty in battle after doing nothing but chores for the guild.
Risley brings you on low rank missions, and asks Kagura to loosen her grip on giving you a hard time.
“He can’t just be our errand boy, he’s a wizard too, I think it’d be a breath of fresh air to have him come with me on this escort mission.”
Kagura just huffs under her breath and just nods at her request. “If he messes up the mission, it’s your mess to clean up.”
Arana is slowly getting used to you. But it’s nowhere near as stubborn as Kagura. As long as you do you and not be a creep towards the girls, she’s fine with you.
“Hm, you’ll do anything to be apart of this guild will you, celestial boy?” The spider lady cooed at you. You unsure how long you can take this…
Kagura slowly became a lot more lenient around you after going on a mission with Miliana that ended in a huge reward! Bringing back the big money, Kagura was a lot more trusting but you were not were going on missions solo yet.
But you had Milliana, Risley, Beth to vouch for you over time as you gained your trust. And Kagura tried her best to be more open about you being in the guild.
Any time a tournament rolled around, you stood behind and support the women but certain Sabertooth members just couldn’t keep their thoughts to themselves..
“A male lapdog?? As if Mermaid Heel couldn’t be any less weak.”
Words stung but Kagura took no mind to their criticism and suddenly defended you. “(Y/n) may be a man, but he’s still a valuable member of the guild, he can hold his own and has strength to back it up. Something Sabertooth wouldn’t see even if it dropped at their doorstep.”
Sabertooth gave you guys glares but Kagura didn’t flinch. “Instead of focusing on us, you should focus on Fairy Tail, who’s currently destroying your high leveled members like they were rookies.”
Sabertooth never looked in your direction again after that. You owe a lot for Kagura. Even though your guild didn’t win, you suggested a feast after the long battles but Miliana jumped in and wanted some ice cream, and was already hyped. The rest followed and looked at Kagura.
“How ‘bout the best of both? Some big meat legs and ice cream for dessert!” Risley tweaked the suggestion. Kagura faintly hummed in delight and agreed.
Mermaid had a nice feast that night and the atmosphere was warm and relaxing after the tournament rolled out from memory. Arana and Risley danced, holding their liquor in very well, showing no signs of slowing down. Beth and Miliana were grinning ear to ear as they held their ice cream, enjoying the sweet savory dessert.
You and Kagura sat by the bar, taking in the scenery of the lively guild as you two sipped your drinks a few times. “Thanks for defending me back there.” You began, turning your attention to Kagura.
“No thanks needed, it’s what comrades do.” She replied, hiding her face away from you. “I suppose you do a lot for our guild, and I appreciate that.”
“You better not leave us for another guild.” She stated.
You didn’t mind staying in Mermaid Heel a bit longer after that. With how everyone was starting to warm to you, I’d be hard to leave now.
It was nice feeling wanted for once. And you made a lot good friends, you found a new home.
