So my latest obsession —

This is Millicent Bystander

She is my grungy lil hobo gal

I made her a few years ago as a throwaway but recently repurposed her for a new campaign with some friends! (More under cut)

She’s a literal homeless girl with a minor deity of chaos stuck inside her head

Shenanigans ensue

The campaign has yet to officially start but we did a practice session and I had so much fun that I spent the rest of the week drawing her and a few other characters in the campaign as well

So crazy lore dropped in the Patchworks: Origins universe

SO FOR CONTEXT!!! We had our big finale arc for Season 1 of the campaign. During the arc, Millicent’s glasses were damaged and as such it affected her ability to manage Chaos’s powers. The big baddie of the season 1 finale was a guy called Ezekial Diamond, an automaton who was trying to destroy the city as an excuse to monopolize the oil industry. Long story, you don’t need to know. Anyway, he was getting difficult during the fight and Milli felt it was time to step in, despite knowing that she would end up worsening her condition….

So here’s the art from session two! VERY ACTION PACKED

Henry (one of the characters) likes making brekkies for everyone (though he made this meal last session and I didn’t finish the art in time…)

We got ambushed by a trio of villains — one of which had this GIANT MONSTER DOG called Cerberus. COOL FIGHT SCENES ENSUED!

Millicent used her Chaos powers for the first time… and there is this little side effect called “Bedlam”, which is where if the final amount rolled is a doubles number (11, 22, 33, 44, etc.) then something very unlucky happens. I rolled a 22.

Henry somehow managed to tame the Astor Vultures and shocked all of us.

A character called Ibba arrived post battle to help explain some stuff. Ibba knows about Millicent’s powers and past (Ibba has a knowledge ability, she’s a walking dictionary of everything). Millicent had a private talk with her about it and revealed some really deep insecurities she has about Chaos.

Ibba also helped connect the dots between the bad guys we’re fighting and a kid named Luca who we have been really worried about. Apollo was not happy when he realized what’s happening. (Art coming soon)

Henry’s power is not just cooking! His real talent is being able to materialize anything that he draws on his skin. He made a special ice cream for Luca. (Art coming soon)

More to come! We’ve already had our third session and more art has been planned!

Okee so a lot of sessions have happened since I last updated but here’s some highlights in the form of artwork!

The group found Luca in the city square and he took them all to get something called “cotton candy pancakes”, and Millicent is a huge foodie so she got excited with him. She also got the first sugar rush of her life so she was tons of fun.

Millicent’s bilingual bff Obara (in her language best friend is “soh jon”) joined the gang for their mission and everyone was arguing about who and how to talk to her

Half of the group followed the villains from the previous day and the other half went to the city’s museum to check out a thread. The villain tailing group followed them to a random spot and this is a recreation of exactly what happened…

Millicent got to apologize to the dog and they are now best friends! She absolutely adores Cerberus and Jim (Cerberus’ owner) wasn’t entirely keen on it.

Because so much has happened and I cannot POSSIBLY make art of everything in a scheduled fashion, I’m just gonna randomly poke my head in and show off my drawings whenever I feel like it and maaaaybe you’ll get context and maaaaaybe you won’t.

Patchwork: Origins Hero Posters!

I made a buncha posters for the campaign we're doing (They're inspired by the character introduction posters from a series I have not seen called "American Gods".)

Patchwork: Origins update!

TW: uhh let’s call it intense bullying, disassociation / anxiety attack, a HECK TON of blood, morbid comedy and * censored* cussing

So we had a sesh where, in a town that never has bad weather, it started to rain. Millicent loves rain and couldn’t comprehend the fact it was a bad thing so she just went out to enjoy the rainfall.

That was how the group discovered that the rain made people oddly… calm. The others followed after her and found out the rain removed their inhibitions and — for the two characters with secret voices in their heads — it also made those voices disappear.

The funniest thing is they knew it was bad that this was happening but they couldn’t physically feel any fear or upset over it so they were like “This needs to be fixed but I can’t stop smiling!”

They also learned fairly quickly that the after effects of the calming rain caused “illusions” of their fears to attack them (Victor got attacked by his grandfather who verbally berated him). Oddly enough they manage to stop the illusion by covering it up with a tarp!

So the group go out to find Milli and Victor’s bff Obara, who they believe is in danger from the rains effects as well (they called her number and a mysterious voice that claimed he was her brother told them not to bother her anymore). While walking going to find her apartment, Millicent notices something odd…

So the group stops Milli’s illusion before it gets any further and she snaps out of her panic attack. She tries ignoring what happened and pretends it didn’t matter (mostly because she doesn’t want to accidentally reveal too much of her past or the entity in her head to them). But the Father Figure ™ Apollo has decided that he needs to talk with her about that later (tbd) and then they move on.

So after a minute of walking, the next illusion begins and it is the Father Figure ™ Apollo’s turn! Surprisingly he and Millicent have a lot in common in terms of past trauma…

(It may not be clear but we discovered that covering the illusions would cause them to disappear so Milli threw her shawl on Apollo to make the blood go away. This worked lol.)

After this the group assumes that the illusion was ended and they start to move on… until Apollo sees that it hasn’t actually ended and the next installment is about to decapitate Millicent and Illyria! They rescue them and an evil Apollo clone made of blood starts to battle Apollo to the death while revealing the blood he has on his hands and how he may or may not have killed Obara’s brother! Before the clone can reveal more, Millicent uses her Chaos powers to destroy the illusion and the group press on.
