millie and kitty were equally responsible for marleys eating disorder but that’s a conversation yall aren’t ready for

like let’s chat about this for a minute, shall we? marley grew up with millie always deprecating herself and warning marley to not end up like she did. she began offering to drop marley off further away from school so people wouldn’t know they were related and any scene she was in had to do with either her own weight or marleys weight.

because of this it’s safe to assume that marley grew up with a lot of internalized fatphobia and she even grew up thinking she was the sole defender of her mother when people would crack jokes about her

then just as marleys ed is beginning to progress just before the glease production starts, millie puts both herself and marley on a strict diet. while this diet may have been healthy for millie, marley was far younger and was at a healthy weight for her age that she didn’t need to change all so millie could have accountability and ensure that her daughter didn’t “end up like her”

the hand kitty played in marleys eating disorder was encouraging the behavior by showing her and tightening the costumes so she’d feel like she had to lose weight when she didn’t.

millie was involved in her daughters recovery for the short bit of it we saw and kitty profusely apologized, so they were both in the wrong and they both made up for it in the end and built stronger relationships with marley after the fact
