I know criminal mimes are sent to clowny island to become “indentured servants” (we all know they’re basically slaves lmao) but how do mimes end up in peoples homes? Do clowns fill out an application to match them with the best servant? Do the wealthy simply buy them outright? Are they auctioned off? I headcanon that sleazy “mime cafes” are totally a thing but they’re dying off since most clowns rightfully find them appalling. Except for clowns like Dusty Pockets, he’s a regular
The mime empire has contracts with many other kingdoms that are willing to accept servants. The only crime mimes who aren't sent away are either sick, minors, pregnant, elderly, or disabled in a way that they can't do labor. Instead, they get to do small tedious tasks that no one else wants like separating machine parts, sewing clothes, or putting best seller stickers on books.
People get servants by filling out applications. They can request them by things like age range, gender, or specific skills and Mimopolis' system tries to place them accordingly. Companies may also send requests for assistance. They like having cheap labor and calling it "rehabilitation."
There are people who know Mimopolis' prison system is messed up and send applications as a way to 'save' a mime. They'll get a servant and basically just treat them like an exchange student. No servitude involved.
When the Mills requested a servant to help with Quinn, they asked for someone with childcare experience and got Manet, who grew up in an orphanage and helped take care of the younger kids.
Penelope requested a sophisticated female mime in her 30s like herself, who likes dogs. She got Matisse... a 19-year-old troll who likes dogs fine but is more interested in frogs.
The mimes will normally live in group housing in their host kingdom, though some might live in their 'employers' homes if they happen to have a spare room.
'Wardens' are placed in each kingdom to ensure that servants are behaving and have what they need, like food or medical treatment. The amount of wardens depends on the size of the kingdom. Clowny Island only has one or two at a time.
Secret Mime Cafes are totally a possibility. As implied before, wealthy Empress supporters get priority selection. They usually go for more hot, unique-looking, and/or hybrid mimes.
Not sure if Dusty is "elite" enough to get invited to those though...I mean there's Clowny Island rich and then there's WEALTH.
Anyway, probably a good thing Kingston left when he was like 12 :/
