One of the things I really love about the HP verse is the fact that there’s no limit on it. We’re shown how magic works in the UK and in parts of Europe (but you can’t expect me to believe that all of Europe can be represented by France, Germany and Scotland? What about Scandinavia? Iceland? The Finns? They’re a completely separate people! Spain - the Moors in Spain? The Basque? Eastern Europe, where young schools have sprung up now that they have new countries and don’t send their children to Russia? Old schools in the med dating back to classical times? Rival schools in Turkey for the kurds and the turks?) BUT the vast majority of the world is open.
At least, I like to think it is.
Which means that we have pheonix and hippogriffs and dragons and unicorns sure, but Newt travelled the world. A demiguise is all very well and yes, fine, apparently it came from the far east - except that demi and guise betray a decidedly European origin for its name and I can’t find it mentioned anywhere outside Fantastic Beasts / the HP verse. (If I’m wrong, please let me know)
I want to see the Qilin. I want the bunyips. I want giant gambos swimming over in the levitated aquatic habitat in Newt’s suitcase; I want kappa and orang-bati and mapinguari.
And, you know, you’re an international lot aren’t you? Tumblr covers a fair chunk of the world. I know a decent amount about the mythology of my own country and I’m learning as much as I can about the mythology and magical creatures of other countries, but I figured I’d ask you guys. You’ve got to be better than the “top ten scary creatures around the world” list I’m currently reading.
So.
Send me mythology and magical creatures from your country (or not from your country!) and I’ll find a way to work them into a fic.
If I can’t work them into a fic, then rest assured that I’ll treasure the knowledge anyway because hell yes more magic things and more cultures to learn about. I will also love you forever more, but that’s a given.
