Tree Calliandra or Mimosa Grandiflora

The generic name is derived from the Greek word μῖμος (mimos), an "actor" or "mime", and the feminine suffix -osa, "resembling", suggesting its 'sensitive leaves' which seem to 'mimic conscious life'.

Acacia glaucoptera

Plants with a milky blue-green color are referred to as “glaucous”, and when you combine this with “ptera”, meaning wing, you have an apt description of this small shrub (to 3 feet tall or so, or 1 m). The new foliage is tinged bronzy red, and the little yellow flowers add to the festive atmosphere when they emerge in late winter. Acacias belong to the Pea Family (in the subfamily Mimosoideae), and there are many species native to Australia. Acacia glaucoptera comes from the southwestern corner of the country.

A small spiny shrub, generally under 50cm tall and a meter wide, that flowers prolifically. Endemic to the SW corner, again,growing in seasonally damp areas, in and around swamps, and on flats and coastal dunes, in a variety of soils. This one was growing next to the freeway at Wandi.
