suzaku: so all we have we have to do for the zero requiem is just kill you then. that’s not too bad. looks like this’ll be easy
emperor lelouch (looks at suzaku): uh,

it’s the royal britannian ball. crystal chandeliers and shimmering silks lined with fur. the setting glows with absolute affluence and grandeur. ladies and lords waltz, gliding across the dance floor, accompanied by a lovely orchestra. and they all ignore prince lelouch voguing in the middle of the ballroom floor as the knight of three, gino weinburg, hypes the fuck outta him
i love code geass and i do think that it’s a series that tries to denounce imperialism but its so messy to have japan be the victim of imperialism when it has been, in real world history, one of its crowning champions. maybe the directors / writers were trying to make it seem bad by writing this alternate universe where it happened to japanese people, to drive home the point of ‘imagine if it happened to us. we wouldnt like it, would we?’ but it’s still kind of...
like this alternate universe is spurred by the existence of geass and sakuradite, so it’s not entirely trying to make a different setting for the sole purpose of acting as if ww2 never happened but erasing that i feel like ... that erases a lot of japan’s mentality? which is a very general statement and i’m not tryna get into the subtleties of ww2 on the effect of modern japanese politics or anything (i’m by no means an expert on this so i couldn’t even really argue for whatever it is im vaguely gesturing to) but i just. i don’t see how the japan that lost its leader and eventually fell into another nation’s hands could possibly be japan. bc in real world history, that’s korea.
so code geass tried to write up a story that was surprisingly antiwar in the end; a story abt hope and peace. but what exactly was the message, in regards to real world e. asian issues?
i don’t know a whole lot about arthurian mythos / legends like my understanding of it is limited to a couple of episodes worth of podcasts so i’m not sure if this is entirely accurate but there was a part in the story where lancelot was captured and out of commission, thought to be dead, while back in camelot there was going to be a sort of match among the knights there in an effort to woo the court women. lancelot heard of it and realized guinevere would be there so he convinced his jailkeeper to let him out just to participate. he disguised himself in red armor so no one would be able to tell he was lancelot, but guinevere had a suspicion it was her knight so she asked him to lose, so he lost. she then asked him to win, and he won.
that being said, if this story is true, then it’s interesting to see that code geass has their own red knight (guren / kallen) and lancelot (suzaku) who are at odds against one another? kallen is, despite being the metaphorical queen piece, technically zero’s knight (as captain of the zero squad) and suzaku has his own knight stuff going on.
lelouch is the only white person in the world who can wear ‘OBEY’ merchandise without me crossing the street to walk on the other sidewalk in fear of him passing me by and making greasy eye contact
i know there’s a lot of argument about r3 bringing back lelouch since it kind of undermines the grandiose of the ending + what lelouch stood for but honestly i’ve been under the impression that r3 will be an alternate ending of sorts
the akito series hinted at timeline stuff with the caretaker of spacetime? and code geass is getting remake movies + a new chapter in the series. what other mainstream animes abt gay kids got remake movies + a new addition that turned out to be alternate endings to the original? neon genesis evangelion and puella magi madoka magica. thank you.
the code geass ost is so so so good
every time i look at a code geass side profile and just see a dot where the nostrils supposed to be i automatically lose it like this is just so crazy he breathe thru that shit ?? its tiny. its fucking tiny. what kinda air is gonna go thru that. this is why lelouch has asthma
