I feel like I need to inform you that Guillermo Del Toro just announced that he is doing a screening of Crimson Peak with a live Q&A in Toronto, Canada on October 3rd to raise funds for Revue Cinema, a local indie theatre that he helped save from closing earlier this year. I know you are American but I figured I should let you know! I snagged a ticket and shall do my best report back on what he says at the Q&A!

I have no way to go because I lost my passport in the fire and even an expedited one wouldn’t make it in time. Tragic. But do keep me posted. (I’m guessing it’s in Toronto because they filmed it up that way)

I simply must know as tumblr's foremost Crimson Peak aficionado, have you seen La Femme en Noir's Crimson Peak collab? And what are your thoughts? (Personally I'm in love the teal Lucille dress and caplet)

I have!

I’m not a huge fan, myself. I know simplifying everything is meant to appeal to an audience that doesn’t dress like a misplaced Victorian everyday (AKA most people in 2023, I know!) but for me personally, it’s just TOO watered down. Nothing has ornamentation, and for a movie full of opulent costumes with carefully-chosen trims, that’s not going to tempt me.

Also it’s mostly synthetic fabrics, which again is expected nowadays, but puts it Out for me for sweatiness and personal convictions reasons. I like the ghost bag, but $88 and it’s not real leather? A nope from me. I usually don’t judge people for wearing or buying synthetic materials- they’re often the most affordable option because we live in a capitalist hellscape, and even I can’t always avoid them in shoe soles and trims -but I WILL judge a company for charging these prices for plastic.

(The Lucille dress is over $200 for a barely trimmed, knee-length, poly velvet dress? Lucille where? And the “hand belt” isn’t even the actual hand belt- it’s a real-world design that was popular in the 1970s.)

I AM glad other people like it though, and I hope they enjoy their new outfits! Showing Universal that CPeak is a valuable property means more merch to come, which is a win for me regardless.
