Neuras x Reader

You calmly verify the food stocked on the storage room, to verify that you all have enough after the three additional mouths that have come aboard the gauntlet runner, you still aren’t sure on how to feel about the songstress and the two Louis men joining the trip to Virga island, but your opinion isn’t going to change the captain’s mind anyway, so you try to be useful while occupying your mind, by making a list of every ingredient that has finished or is finishing.
You hear her wings and his soft steps before the door open and closes, Will and Gallica look surprised to see you there, “Hey! Haven't seen the two of you this morning since I slept in, everything's ready or do you need something?”
Will seems to look around for a little while and take a gauntlet shroom from the lower shelf, his eyes seem to not focus on you for more than a second, his face pink, Gallica seems to be doing a little better, but her wings seem a little more frantic than normal.
“Not really, we have been getting a few extras of everything just to be on the safe side, so it’s more of a double-checking thing” Will rises to his feet and evades your eyes again, cleaning a nonexistent dirty from his gloves.
“Why are you two acting weird?” you step within Will’s personal bubble, your hands on your hips, which makes him blush red and step back, clearly embarrassed about something, but he never reacts like this.
The captain always stands tall and never not makes eye contact with you. (he says it’s to show he’s listening and that he cares about you)
“W-we? Acting weird? You seem to not be thinking… right…” his eyes meet yours for more than a second, and you take advantage of that.
You do your best I’m two times your age, and I am not stupid face, or as Strohl likes to call it your mom glare.
Will sighs in defeat and looks at the ceiling before closing his eyes, “I came back yesterday to put away a few things and… me and Gallica heard-… and… You two… were kind of… loud last night…”
“OH MY GOD!” he buries his red face in his hands at your exclamation. “I’m so sorry!”
“It’s alright…. I guess? Just-… don’t be as loud… anymore? Please?” Will pleads softly, hiding his face from view.
“Of course! I’m really sorry Cap’“ he takes a deep breath and exits the storage room, leaving you to your note-taking.
As you get over the fact that everyone heard your actions with your husband last night, you giggle before laughing out loud, even though you are embarrassed you know Neuras is going to be much worse.

That night, after spending the day making sure the land-to-sea mechanism is working properly and evading both the Magnus brothers and the songstress, it’s meal time, so most of the group is on the lounge room or on the map table.
You take yours and Neuras plates to the cockpit, finally away from the awkwardness that seems to be a cloud around the two brothers.
With a big sigh, you sit on the floor by the pilot’s chair.
“I told you I would eat later”
“We both know that your later means never, and I wanted to spend some time with you”
His eyes meet yours for a breath moment, which makes him frown, “You seem tired, are those two causing trouble to you?”
“Not really, it’s just awkward most of the time, but this is the first day, I hope it gets better before we arrive on the island”
You eat in silence as Neuras does not evade his eyes from the sea, and an idea comes to your mind, and you finish eating quickly.
The best part of this adventure other than to make the world a better place, is the fact that you two act like newlyweds again, after so many years together and so many highs and lows, this pseudo vacation is awesome. You feel like a young lady again, mostly due to his adorable reactions to your flirting.
You get up from the floor and pulls at Neuras’s left arm, he raises an eyebrow, but complies, letting you take his arm.
Taking advantage of his lowered guard, you sit on his lap, making him jump and blush “MADAM! I-I I’m trying to drive here!”
“Don’t forget to keep both hands on the steering wheel, my dove ♪~” he does put both hands on the wheel again.
You get comfortable sitting in one leg and letting both of yours lazily on top of the other, that gives him a lot of space to drive safely.
“If Hulkenberg finds us like this, she will have my head!” his blush goes from the bridge of his nose to the tip of his ears, while his feathers fluff up to the maximum.
“If she does that, they would have no driver to pilot this water runner”
He raises an eyebrow, “But you know how to drive it, I made sure you did”
“You silly bird, do you really think I would help anyone after taking the love of my life from me?” your hands easily hug his neck as you rub the tip of your nose on his cheek.
“O-oh…” his whole face is red as his eyes meet you before he gives you a big smile and slaps his own forehead while laughing, “WHAT A FOOL THOUGHT! I would do the same for you, my sweet gale!”
“By the way, you do remember that we… had fun last night on the engine room?”
He chuckles and wiggles his eyebrow, “How could I forget? You sang beautifully, my sweet gale, I feel very proud of getting you to that level again, I thought I lost my touch after so many years”
“I do love to prove you wrong” he laughs with his full chest. Neuras laughs is always so open, you love it very much, you feel his wings trying to circle around you, trying to keep you as close as possible.
“That you do! Couldn’t expect less of my favorite assistant!”
“I’m the only assistant you ever had!” you roll your eyes at his antics before giving a devilish smile, “I screamed kind of loud yesterday, didn’t I?”
Neuras, being the smart men he is, stops smiling, and gets really pale “No!”
You laugh at his reaction, his sweating “Who?” He asks, trying to keep his eyes on the sea, but always coming back to look at you.
“Will and Gallica were very red when they brought it to me, so maybe next time let’s make sure that everyone left and that no one decided to come back to the runner, okay?” he physically cringes.
“The poor boy, I hope we didn’t traumatize him too much…. and that he didn’t tell Hulkenberg, that would be very bad for both of us” you nod in agreement.
“If he did, we would have felt it”
Neuras laughs again and slaps his own forehead, making you smile and kiss the spot he slapped, making him blush and pet your back before resting his head on your shoulder as he focuses on driving.
As always, he has gotten used to you on his lap, so it’s time for your secret weapon!
“Now eat so that I can wash the dishes, as today it’s me and Lady Junah will be responsible for such”
“Yes, ma’am!” but before he can reach for the fork and plate that’s on your lap, you grab it first and take a spoonful of food to his mouth.
“Say aaaaah!”
Neuras’s face turned bright red, and he was so surprised by your action that he stepped on the break without thinking, making the gauntlet runner stop suddenly, you hear surprised shouts and screams from not only outside, but there’s also the sound of splash, like something falling from the water.
The only reason you didn’t fall was due to Neuras’ firm hold on you.
“MAN OVERBOARD!” You hear Heismay shouting, “Captain fell on the sea!”
Your husband and you have the same face of horror, you quickly get up from his lap and look outside, seeing Strohl and Junah help to bring Will back who is coughing like crazy.
You look around to make sure everyone that was on the front of the vessel was alright, you are meet with the vision of Fidelio who is very angry and glares at the two of you, he clearly is going to pick a fight because of this, one of his hands is holding onto Basilio’s arm and the other grasping firmly on the railing, while his brother is grabbing onto the railings like his life depends on it, paralyzed with what appears to be fear.
Hulkenberg barges into the cockpit with her spear draw, “YOU TWO BUFFOONS! YOU ALMOST KILLED OUR CAPTAIN! I WILL HAVE YOUR HEAD FOR THIS!”
Gallica makes her stop by standing between her and you two, “Wait a second! They are our only drivers!” you two are saved!
“Let them explain themselves before punishing the most guilty one, that way we can still make it to Virga island in time” the fairy glare at the two of you and Hulkenberg complies, with spear in hands she points it at the two of you.
You step up and raise your hands defensively, now in front of Neuras “I am so sorry, I didn’t mean to-”
Neuras gets up from his seat and pulls you back, putting himself between you and them “It was my fault, I didn’t sleep well, and after she came to make me company I ended up relaxing, she shouted at me, it startled me, and before I knew my foot was on the brakes, I apologize”
“I understand that it was an accident, but you should know better! ‘tis the prince's vessel you imbecile!” the roussainte slaps his head
“You should go to sleep Neuras, we need you at your best” Gallica crosses her arms angrily before flying to you, “You can keep it going? If not we must make a stop, e can’t have two tired drivers”
“No, I can drive” You confirm, the two women finally leave “You shouldn’t have said that, she even slapped your pretty head!”
He opens his arms to you, and welcomes you into a hug “It’s alright it was my fault, such a dramatic reaction for you trying to feed me” Neuras shakes his head, disappointed on himself “Next time I’ll be ready for it!”
That pulls a giggle from you, “Are you sure about that”.
“No! But what am I if not someone who no longer gives up!?” He squeezes you tightly, and you hug him back, before you exchange a kiss.
