“This looks broken.” Tashi pointed to Kelari’s leg.
“Yes….they did break it. In the…prison.” His voice broke.
“Did they do anything for it?”
“Not there. Here they gave me a splint….”
“Let me see.” She crouched and lifted his ragged pant leg. Sure enough, there was a crude splint, bound with strips of cloth. The area looked red and swollen. She wondered if his leg was salvageable, and she longed for a medpatch. And for Jet to return and shower her with his miracles. Had he even been there at all, or had the flying boy been a figment of her delirious imagination? She wasn’t so sure…although her healed bone attested to the fact that something incredible had happened. Without the medpatches, she would still have been on crutches, perhaps bedridden, and definitely wouldn’t have been able to come on this journey. Maybe she would have been crippled for life. Her leg might never be the same again, and she might have to live with pain, but at least she could walk.
