Small slivers of sunlight slither through the cracks in the blinds warming exposed skin, illuminating dips and curves of rumpled bed sheets. There’s a chill in the air, tufts of unruly hair splayed across a pillow, as sleep still clings heavily to Yoongi’s frame. A pesky, needy little thing that holds him hostage, keeps him submerged in whatever fantastical world his consciousness has crafted for him. Yet even here in his utopian land of dreams he’s aware of a missing piece. Heavy limbs stretch out searching blindly for a source of warmth that once claimed the spot opposite his, he comes up empty, brows pinching together in befuddlement. The fog that had once claimed his vision begins to clear, taking the siren whose song held him captive in the land of dreams, he blinks once, twice, eyelids still heavy, almost beckoning him back to the warm embrace of slumber. He denies himself the pleasure, shifting around before sitting up. The bright red numbers of the digital clock greet him, 7:45 they scream, moving to slowly sink into his consciousness, that is slow to wake. He groans as he stretches his limbs feeling the relief as sleep stiff joints sound off in quick sharp pops, before he’s moving again.
This particular morning is quiet more so than the last though he can’t quite remember when that was. He’s used to long nights, used to coming home to a quiet house and cold dinner, used to climbing into bed and curling around your sleeping form. A small price to pay to keep the roof over your heads and food in your bellies, but most of all he does it for you. Though really he knows you would prefer he do it for himself. The soft muted pad of his feet on carpeted floors carry him towards the kitchen, nose twitching as the familiar scent of medium roasted coffee beans fill his being rousing his brain further. His senses, still dulled, are slow to pick up the soft overly sweet scent of your peppermint coffee creamer, slower still to hear your soft whispered call of his name. It’s only till he’s pressed to your back, body molded to yours, hands up your T-shirt that he hears your call. The soft tone you use when you know he’s not fully awake yet, the way you care enough to coax him to full consciousness with soft words and an even softer touch.
But this time he’d surprised you, the feel of his warm palms on your skin is far and few between. Not because he doesn't want to, if he’d had his way he’d never keep his hands to himself. No, it’s more so your own fault, maybe it was the years of ridicule, perhaps it was the self loathing. Maybe it was the early 2000’s movies that had promised you a glow up that came with puberty. Truly though it was perhaps a combination of all three but you liked this too. Prefered it actually, his touch was always hesitant, hands stopping midway only to fall back to his sides because he understood your hesitance. Knew of your internalized self hatred over how you looked and how you’d been lied to all your life. How not everyone was deemed worthy of crazy fast metabolisms. Nor the sudden drop in weight once puberty sank its teeth into you, no you weren’t one of the lucky ones. You had bigger thighs and a meatier tummy, with soft upper arms and rounded cheeks. You weren’t cute, not petite or doll like or even slim like others you were just you. Plain old you, but Yoongi didn’t mind. He liked you, liked the softness of your upper arms, the roundness of your cheeks. More than liking your bigger thighs, loved watching them dimple under his grip, loved the feel of them as he laid his head in your lap, he didn’t care about the meatiness of your tummy, because your skin was still soft. Still warm to the touch, you just had more for him to love, and he did, he loved you as you were. Even if you shied away from his touch sometimes, especially on those bad days where you questioned why, why he’d chosen to love you when no one else had?
And for that Yoongi didn’t have an answer, but did he really need one? He loved you and that should’ve been enough, was enough because here you were now half dressed in his kitchen. Sighing softly as his thumbs brushed the underside of your bare breasts. His lips pressing kisses to the column of your throat, eagerly taking bits of flesh between teeth, not enough to mark but enough to feel the slight sting of pain. He pressed his hips impossibly close to your ass, morning wood nestled in the crack between your cheeks. Your body is reacting accordingly, shifting slightly so that your ass presses more firmly to his crotch. There's a soft tortured whine slipping past your lips as he pulls you closer still, fingertips teasing the elastic of your panties as his chest rumbles softly on a groan. You part your lips, tongue wrapped around the syllables of his name but are startled by the sharp ‘bwah’ that ricochets around the room pulling your lust addled brain back to the present.
Wide eyes stare at you bouncing in the playpen as you and Yoongi watch equally as doe-eyed as your son. You’re quick to pull away from him closing the distance between the island and you're one year old. He’s reaching up to you making smacking noises as you lift him onto your hip kissing his head and whispering soft words of adoration. Yoongi watches a soft smile titling his lips when your son lays his cheek on your shoulder squishing his already cherub features further. Adoration shines bright in your eyes as you bounce the baby a little with soft laughs peppering more little kisses to his single exposed cheek. It’s now that he registers the coffee mug and the pancakes, the way you easily plop the little chubby bundle of joy in his arms leading him to his chair.
Your son sits comfortably in Yoongi’s lap making more smacking noises as he reaches for the pieces of pancake you’ve cut up for him. And here in the quiet peacefulness of this morning he can’t help but feel it's perfect. He pulls you into his side, startling you slightly as you gaze down at him to meet his stare.
“Love you.” he whispers leaning into you, your lips twitch upwards as you lean down kissing his forehead with a soft smile, a confirmation of what he already knows, your own ‘me too’.
(Hope okay that I’m putting this in a separate post from the swag. :/ I never get the opportunity to make posts like this and wanted to make a fun lineup separating the fics into their respective categories so I don’t feel like such a useless unproductive thing.)
Lest ye worry that I am not constantly aware of all the fics waiting to be worked on: the top left pic is a list I made at the beginning of the year for myself, more as a reminder than a to-do (also, it’s been a really rough year :/), that hangs on the wall just outside the kitchen, and the bulletin board resides directly opposite my bed, covered with (and surrounded by!) piles of handwritten notes for all the fics I (badly!) need to work on. The green folder on the right contains little diagrams that I scribbled down years ago for Peeta’s house in WtM, and the bottom half of the board contains inspirational/fan art by @reylo-the-jedi (including a positively snuggle-able goslit and kitling, a fox fairy and gander, and two prints of a glorious sun-and-moon fairy couple that look awfully Everlark...♡) and @ghtlovesthg (”Pair of turtledoves, so entwined,” or Everlark from Prince Peeta and the Mockingjay-Maid ♡). Sorry for the blurry pics! :(
When it comes to writing fic, one of my obsessions is the whole web of characters and relationships that has sprung up over these past six years. While I used to be able to write a fic that involved nothing but Peeta and Katniss (hello, Miles Cross!), now there are all manner of threads that get pulled if I change a character’s arc or (horrors!) cut them out completely. Case in point: Strawberry Time became a full-on parallel fic to WtM because there was so much going on in Twelve that I wanted to acknowledge (and explore!). As a result, as you get to my more recent fics you’ll find copious side-ships as well as fics where other pairings are the focus, though Peeta and Katniss are almost always simmering in the background or on deck for the future. :) (And I’ll never write a fic pairing Peeta or Katniss with anyone but each other!)
Incidentally, I will sometimes make a distinction between “Everlark” and “Peeta and Katniss” because I also ship Marko (Peeta’s eldest brother in my headcanon) with Prim, as well as Janek (Peeta’s father) with Alys (Katniss’s mother), all of whom could technically be labeled “Everlark” (even Jack/Raisa would qualify if they got together after she was married to Janek, as in Milk-Daughter :D). So if you see the term “Multilevel Everlark” in my AO3 tags, it means that the fic contains two or more of these pairings.
