Today is International Mine Awareness Day.
Did you know landmines and explosive remnants of war kill or injure thousands of individuals every year?
They also close roads, preventing children from going to school and farmers from working the land. Reconstruction after war slows down. Economic and social development diminishes. People’s lives forever change. It hampers UN peacekeepers from providing assistance.
UNMAS works for a world free of the threat of landmines and unexploded ordnance, where individuals and communities live in a safe environment conducive to development, and where mine survivors are fully integrated into their societies.
British actor Daniel Craig, UN Global Advocate for the Elimination of Mines and Explosive Hazards, has an important message on how you can help: https://youtu.be/oSJw2V76HB8
