Minecraft Worldbuilding - weapons in villages
We all know villagers typically need help from iron golems. But there's actually a tradition of villagers giving out a wooden sword to their young adult children.
It's an honorary job; weapon smiths spend hours and hours making this wooden sword, engraving it with the initials of the user, the patterns based off their personality, from swirls for the dreamy ones to fire for more feisty villagers, it's all hand engraved. When a teen villager turns 16, they get this weapon.
Most don't actually use it. They have iron golems after all! Why would anyone need to know how to fight? But some enjoy this. They train, they learn to dodge, attack, flee when needed. They may not need to use these skills often, but even the one time they could save another villager from a zombie when an iron golem was busy, is enough to keep them motivated.
Sadly this tradition has nearly died out. Many, mostly weapon smiths, try to keep this alive in case something happens to their iron golem, but many villagers simply don't see the need to practice this skill.
What it takes to be a knight…
Exploring a ruined sand temple at sunrise.
There were a few drowned hanging out here guarding the place, but they were no match for my Netherite sword.
does anyone have any ideas for how minecraft weapons might appear as irl? like… what would they be modelled on?
would a bow be a composite, a recurve, a longbow, etc?
would a sword be a xiphos, a spatha, a gladius, a rapier, a cutlass, a scimitar, a broadsword, etc?
or would it depend on the person who made the weapon? the version of minecraft -- java, console, bedrock?
like… a lot of people draw longbows in animatics, but I tended to draw recurve when I was practising drawing weapons
and weapons… they are… fascinating
