Claire has felt useless all summer.
AU in which Claire and Jim never got together (likewise for Aja and Steve), and the guy with skills in geology and a magic hammer went with the trolls instead of the theater girl who doesn't have a magic weapon.

"Anything I can do to help?" Claire asked. She hated feeling useless. She had been feeling useless ever since Toby had broken the staff to trap Morgana. She hadn't been useful enough to go with Jim, Toby, and the trolls to New Jersey. She had only been as useful as Steve and Eli at fighting off Morando.
She hadn't been useful enough to keep Aja from becoming an orphan. From being alone while Krel took the throne. Akiridions didn't cry, and yet Aja's voice was hoarse from crying. "Hold me?"
Claire helped her girlfriend in the only way she could.
