Mingyu finds out you have a medical condition you've kept hidden from him.
Words: 756
At the age of three, you received a life changing diagnosis. At that age, the tears of your parents and the concerned looks confused you. Cystic fibrosis. That was the tag they stuck onto the coughing fits, the inability to walk, the prolonged weeks, months, even at times years in the hospital.
In the spring of 2017, however, it seemed that you were having a good streak. It had been over a year since you last were hospitalized (although you still had to go to monthly checkups), and you were feeling better than ever before.
One morning, you decided you were feeling well enough to go for a walk. After enjoying the sunrise, you made your way over to a small cafe that was right next to your apartment building. After determining your order, you strolled up to the counter to be greeted by a particularly good looking barista.
“Good morning!” He cheered, revealing an adorable canine-like smile.
You could feel your cheeks heating up as you stumbled to respond, “Um….could I have (insert drink)?”
“Alright, is that it?” You nodded and after ringing you up, he quickly made your drink. “Here you are.” He gave the drink and gently placed a piece of paper in your hand. Surprised, you looked up to see him blushing. “Have a nice day.” He said quickly, rushing to serve the next customer.
On the piece of paper, you could make out a number and the stereotypical 'Call me~’ Sipping your drink, you couldn't help but smile as you left the shop.
What a dork. Despite cringing over how cheesy he was being, you called him.
“Hello?”
“Hello...this is (y/n). I believe you gave me your number.”
“You called!” His puppy like excitement was adorable. He quickly introduced himself as Mingyu. After sharing some small talk, he asked you out to coffee, claiming he could get you some kind of discount from working there. You didn't have anything to do and he seemed like a nice guy so why not? And that's how you met your boyfriend, Kim Mingyu.
Although you had briefly dated before, your dating experience was limited due to your disease. Thankfully, everything progressed very smoothly for Mingyu and you. Weeks passed, and as you learned more about each other, you kept pushing off telling him about your condition. You didn’t want to ruin the relationship.
One morning you met up with him to get coffee at his cafe. That morning, you had experienced trouble breathing, but relying on your good streak, you decided to meet up with him anyway. Walking in the cafe, you saw him sitting down at a booth. He already had ordered your coffee, memorizing your regular order.
“Hello!” you greeted him. As soon as he looked up at you, his face broke out in that adorable smile. After carrying out some small talk, Mingyu’s name was called out and, before you could act, he shot up to get it for you. Suddenly, you could feel your throat tighten up. As a reaction to this, you started coughing.
No, not now!
By now, Mingyu was back at the table. “Are you alright?” he asked worriedly. You could feel yourself growing dizzy, no matter how hard you fought it. You could feel yourself falling as your eyes shut and everything went black.
You woke up in a familiar setting, the hospital. To your side, you saw your parents and, to your dismay, Mingyu. After reassuring everyone that you were fine and being scolded by your parents for not doing a breathing treatment, your parents left, promising that they visit you tomorrow.
Sadly, that left you and Mingyu alone in a room filled with awkward silence.
“Why didn’t you tell me about this (y/n)?” he said, breaking it.
“I don’t know...I guess I was scared you wouldn’t want to be with me anymore.”
He moved his chair closer to you and took your hand.“That should be the least of your worries right now. I would never leave you over something like this. I am upset that you didn’t tell me, but I’m even more upset that you are suffering like this. If there is anything I can do to help you please just let me know.” He smiled again.
“Thank you. Just promise that you’ll visit lots. It’s so boring in here.”
He laughed, “Of course.” With that, leaned down and kissed your forehead. Blushing, he said goodnight and left the hospital, leaving you smiling, happy everything went well.
