I look at the man in front of me. He was wearing pink shorts a white T and my pink headband for his hair. He was sitting at our coffee table eating up his breakfast while staring at the TV. He finally looks up his chopsticks still in his mouth.

“What’s up?”

“Oh.. Nothing..” I say half angry, half sad. It was my birthday today and he hadn’t say anything about it. I mean, I know he was in the middle of a comeback, but I thought he had specifically taken the next days off for my birthday weekend. He had came home late at night and waking up to him was amazing, but still nothing about my birthday. I sigh and just sit in front of him to start eating the breakfast he had made quickly. We both watch TV in silence, even though I’m not completely focused on it. My phone then lights up and I pick it up.

From: Joohoney “Happy Birthday you beautiful tropical sun fish !!” I laugh at the weird message, little by little I get messages from the others.

From: Shownu Bear “Happy Birthday Y/N, have a good day :)”

From: Kkungkkung “Happy Bday loser, can’t believe you’re still alive.” I sigh at Changkyun’s message but still crack a smile.

From: Kihyunie “Happy Birthday !! I hope you have an amazing day today ! Have fun with Minhyuk :D” I raise an eyebrow and look at Minhyuk, his eyes still fixated on the TV. Whatever, I think to myself.

From: Cute Like a Bunny “Y/N !!!!! Happy BIRTHDAY !!!! I LOVE YOU SM HAVE AN AMAZING DAY CUTIE !!!” The text message was filled with heart emoji and gifs. I chuckle lightly at my best friend’s message and go to the next and final one from the group of boys.

From: Hyungwonah “Happy day of your birth.” Wow, he went the extra mile. I smile and read the other messages from my university friends, some high school friends and family, but… I look up, nothing from him. I squint at him and he turns to look at me with huge round eyes questioning my look.

“What’s wrong? You’ve been acting weird.”

“Nothing I said..” I hiss lightly. He sets down his chopsticks and stretches to show that he was done with his food. I set mine down too, I was really not hungry anymore.

“Anyway, what do you want to do today? Anything planned?”

“Not really.” I turn away to not look at him getting more annoyed.

“Perfect ! I needed to go to the supermarket to get some stuff. We can go together.” Was that it? Was I suppose to spend my birthday at a supermarket with my ignorant dumbass idiot looking boyfriend. He looked really dumb with my pink headband and I just wanted to snatch it from him so I could strangle him with it.

“Yeah I guess we can go together.” I stand up to go put on a comfy oversize t-shirt and some large shorts that matched with the shirt. He went and put on a simple t-shirt and some shorts that showed his beautiful tattoo. He put on some really flashy yellow socks and some white sneakers while I just settle for blue slides. I take my tote bag and my car keys, then we were out into the parking lot.

“Oh Y/N !!” I turn to him an ounce of hope in my eyes. “I completely forgot, I’m so sorry..” I smile at him.

“It’s fine Minhyuk, you’ve been busy and—“

“I completely forgot the list at home. I’ll never remember what I have to get without it, I’ll be right back.” He runs to the stairs and I slam my head onto the hood of my car.

“DAMN YOU, LEE MINHYUK !!!!”

“Are you ok Y/N?” I turn to see my neighbor.

“Ah.. Ms.Kim~ I’m doing amazing.” I flash a huge beautiful smile at her and she does the same. Mihyuk comes back running and takes the keys from my hand to sit at the driver’s sit. I sigh annoyed and just go to the passenger’s sit.

“Alright let’s go !” He starts maneuvering out of the parking garage and soon we were on the highway. I look around me, while his right hand rests on the armrest. I usually put my hand with him but this time I didn’t even want to look at him. I steal some glances and he just smiles while slightly bopping his head to the music playing. I grind my teeth a bit in annoyance and just turn off the music. “Mhh? What’s wrong Y/N?”

“Nothing, I just don’t want to listen to music right now..”

“Ok.” He just smiles a bit and doesn’t argue with me at all. Which was completely unlike Minhyuk. What was happening, is it how things just end in a couple? Minhyuk was my first boyfriend, and I had total trust in him. Plus, I always thought everything was going well, but this whole thing felt off. While I was looking at my legs not paying attention to where we were going. I look up after awhile feeling that we’ve been on the road way longer than needed to go to the supermarket. I barely recognize the view.

“Minhyuk, where are we?”

“We’re almost there.”

“Where?”

“It’s.. a new supermarket. Farmer’s market type thing.”

“It better have ramen there..” I grumble to myself. After a few minutes we finally pull into a dirt road leading to a parking lot fairly filled with people. I look around while he tries to find a parking space in the shade, there is some sort of white building that looked like an entrance to somewhere. When he finally found a spot, we both get out of the car and he comes to take my hand in his. I barely hold onto his and follow him without saying a word. We walk into the white building and he gives two tickets to a lady holding a scanner. She gives us two wrist bands and Minhyuk puts mine on. “What the..” I squint my eyes at the weird action for a farmer’s market. We walk through the white building and get out on the other side. When he opens the door, my eyes open wide and my cheeks probably redden from the view. Fields and fields of flowers of every color possible and imaginable. I gasp and put my hand in front of my mouth trying to hide my huge smile.

“Happy Birthday Y/N~ I know you’ve been dreaming about coming here, so I thought this would be the right time.”

“You..” I put my hands down and look at him with a huge smile that soon dropped. “You asshole !” I hit him a couple of times while he laughs his ass off. “I hate you ! I really thought something was wrong and we were gonna break up or something !!” I run after him while he can’t stop laughing.

“I’m sorry baby.” He stops to catch me in his arms and rest his head on top of mine. “I hope you like the surprise.” He takes my head in his large hands and smiles at me. “I would never forget your birthday. How could I forget the day, that my little sunshine baby..” He kisses my forehead. “Came to life? This day is as precious to you as it is to me. I was just messing with you.” He smiles mischievously. “It was hilarious the way you pouted the whole way here.” He laughs and takes my hand in his so we could start walking on the large paths between the fields.  

“I hate you..” I push him lightly with a huge smile on my face.

“I love you too.” He takes my hand in his hand and kisses my temple lovingly. “So so much~”

Winter had never really been your time of the year. The silence became unnerving, the snow a nuisance, all while the grey skies weighed heavy upon your back like a damp reminder of some past mistake. You could never see yourself liking it.

“Ah! Oh my gosh, oh my- please!” Minhyuk whined, arms outstretched and hands waving. You wondered how he’d managed to free himself to that extent from the mountain of blankets he’d burrowed into, but you didn’t keep him from what he wanted for too long - how could you? His quivering pout and puppy eyes were too strong for your weakened soul.

You handed him his mug of hot chocolate, which he accepted gracefully with both hands. The steam whisped around his face, a silver that waned into transparence and framed his delighted smile. He brought the warmth to his lips, lightly dusted rose and smooth, wincing at the temperature with a wide-eyed look.

“Yah, Y/N, you’re my saviour,” he exclaimed with a sigh, staring up at you as you placed your own mug on the windowsill behind the sofa.

He looked ethereal, even when clumsily draped under numerous shades of blue to fuschia. His eyes were so deep they reminded you of the earth itself, spun up in freshly fallen rain, calm and consistent - even if he himself could be sporadic. It could be said he brought you colour, even when things were grey.

You chuckled, feeling across the blankets for an opening for yourself, “I wouldn’t go that far.”

He hummed insistently, “I would! I was dying - dying! And then, you, an angel, rescued me, a poor soul, from the depths of the winter darkness!” He flung a hand over his forehead dramatically as you laughed.

“Yeah, less ‘poor soul’ and more ‘drama queen’ I’d say,” you interjected with a mischievous lilt. Your response was met with a dramatic gasp. 

“Excuse me, I have no idea what you’re talking about-!”

Eventually, you found the end of the blankets and managed to scoot yourself beneath them, right at Minhyuk’s side. Twisting yourself so you could reclaim your drink, you left him to help you fill any holes in your defence against the cold of the room. 

As you reached around for your green tea, your eyes got caught by the outside. Delicate shapes of perfect white were gently dancing in the air, a hypnotic waltz that seemed to actively attempt to discourage the iciness of snow. You wondered if it was just you that could see it, if snow had always been like this, and why you’d never felt it in this light before. 

Minhyuk leant over the back of the sofa to join you, placing his mug beside yours, a curious smile tempering his expression as he silently questioned your wonder.

“It’s so beautiful, Minnie,” you whispered.

He saw his chance. And he took it.

“Not as beautiful as you.”

You grimaced at his cheesy words, shooting him a look of pained - but amused - disdain. He immediately gave into a fit of giggles, leaning in and pressing a kiss to your hair. You melted into his laughter, turning back at the peace of the snow. “I can’t believe you!”

Minhyuk nuzzled your neck, before sinking into your shoulder, hands - thankfully warm - caressing your sides, before stilling as he held you as close to him as he could.

“Thank you,” you mumbled, enraptured by how the snow gathered in crowds to form veils that cloaked the branches of the birches outside.  You peered down at the man attached to your side. His eyes were closed, his light hair feathered across his forehead, and his cheek slightly smushed. Again, there was no resisting this man.

Taking a sip of your tea, you decided to prematurely discard it, leaving it on the side as you moved away from the window, slipping down onto your back. Propping your head against the armrest, you shifted so his head was still comfortable, just to the side. He curled into your body while you pulled the blankets to cocoon the two of you. His breath was a steady tempo, a hushed metronome you could almost measure time with, emboldened with the beat of his heart. The silence was no longer deafening, no longer a stubborn precursor of loneliness, as you were no longer alone. 

You brushed your fingers against his temple, gently leading any stray hair away, and he hummed.

Perhaps, with time, winter would become one of your favourite seasons, after all.

Peach silently makes an “Oh” face and hands you another drink.  You had spent most of the night trying to avoid him and vice versa. Your not sure if it was the alcohol or the fact that your such a nerd for the series but you find yourself sitting down next to him and discussing all the characters what your and dislike and what should have been added to the show.

Hey love, so this kind of took a different turn. I’m not a huge fan of the “losing the bet = sleep with him” idea because I feel like it takes away a portion of consent. However, I tried to make it semi-smutty in the end.

He argued that he didn’t know what he would want you to do at the time, but now that he won there was an inherent sense of dread. He was your best friend and you knew him better than most. That familiar knowledge of him made you fear for your future sanity.

“Hit me all you want, I am still the winner,” he said with a smug smile, stretching across the couch like the cat who got the canary. “Which means you owe me a favor.” He draped his legs over your lap, toeing at your stomach.

Usually, your heart would be fluttering at the close proximity to your best friend, but this time around it felt like it would jackhammer out of your chest. “W-what,” you stammered, trying to clear your throat and compose yourself, “What do you want me to do?”

You just stared blankly at the controller in disbelief. It was as if your mind and body were completely at a disconnect. All you could think about was Minhyuk, his intoxicating presence, and the favor you knew you’d eventually owe him. Your head was spinning and nothing fully computed, but you somehow found yourself fleeing the living room and rushing into your bedroom. You felt too stifled, almost suffocating on the air for a reason that you couldn’t fully comprehend.

Minhyuk was your best friend and you loved him more than any other person in the world, so why was your heart speeding at hundreds of miles per minute at the simple idea of him asking you for a favor? It was as if he told you said favor was to commit capital murder. Every nerve and synapsis was firing off at very thought of owing him, especially after you recently came to terms with your feelings for him.

But you made the bet, and you didn’t think you could go back on it.

“Hey,” Minhyuk murmured, knocking on your door and standing in the threshold. He looked concerned, eyes scanning over you with thinly veiled worry. He moved quickly, racing over and taking your face in his hands. The warmth of his hands began to calm you until you realized how close he was standing. The nearness kickstarted your heart again and the room spun. However, Minhyuk was the only thing you could focus on through the vortex. “You’re shaking,” he said, and you didn’t even realize you were until he pointed it out.

“M-Min, what is the favor you want?” Your voice was a mere whisper but in the space, between you, it echoed.

The worry on his face began to melt away into one of his dazzling smiles. One hand stayed on your cheek while the other came to cradle your neck, his thumb resting on your jaw and forcing you to stare directly at his face. “Is that what you are worried about?”

“I’m serious Min,” you could feel the anger at his indifference bubble up, but you also knew that you were being irrational. You were scared and there was no complete reasoning as to why.

He laughed and his forehead came down to touch yours. The intimate gesture sent you soaring into the highest clouds, but you were still bracing yourself for a painful impact. “I just wanted to ask you something simple.” His thumb stroked your cheek as you began to feel a slight tinge of reassurance spread through your veins.
