I found the opera glasses. Technically, these are folding mini binoculars, but my folks called them opera glasses.  These are in my earliest remembrances of seeing any sort of performance as a child, and I probably absconded with them in college.  They are probably only slightly older than I am.

So useful for the theatre, this is what one does when one has a far seat. I’m sure they will come in handy for peering at other things as well.
