The Second Coming (Avatrice fic) Chapter 3
It's breakfast time at the headquarters.
The nuns are already gathered in the refectory to have their meals. Usually, it is a mundane affair, without novelty, in complete peace.
All eyes are currently focused with varying degrees of amazement or interest on someone in particular.
Ava is shoving chunks of food into her mouth in rapid succession, making delightful noises as she does so.
Camila and Jazmin watch her with the same amazement as the other nuns. Mother Superion, however, does it with a hint of affection.
The few minutes of awkward silence are broken by Jazmin's voice.
"Wow, it looks like you haven't eaten in years." Jazmin chuckles oddly at her own comment.
Ava swallows what's on the tip of her tongue in order to answer. "Well, I haven't," she says, filling her mouth again and continuing her feast.
"What?!" Camila exclaims in shock.
Once again Ava stops eating to give a more elaborate answer. "Yeah, once I crossed the realm, I just didn't feel the need to. Until I woke up this morning."
Before she can stuff herself again, Mother Superion asks.
"And how many years were there for you?" She's very curious.
"The same as here. Three years."
"Huh?" Camila is confused. "But Doctor Salvius said time was different in that realm."
"It is," Ava confirms. "Reya didn't know how to explain it. She guessed that the Halo was probably protecting me." She shrugs.
Camila, Jazmin, and Mother Superion smile to themselves. They can all think of a reason why the Halo would want Ava to be intact when she returned.
"Okay, enough interrogation, let Ava eat." Mother Superion intervenes. Then, looking at Ava, she reminds. "Afterwards, we go to Dr. Salvius' lab to get you checked out, okay?"
Ava, mouth already full again, salutes the older woman, earning an eye roll in the process.
